I don’t know how many of you watched the series Braking Bad But this is one of the best speeches I have ever heard.

This is a great speech that everyone should take to hart. We can apply this to our catholic life.

We as believers have a duty to provide for our brothers and sisters in christ. Live a just, moral, christian life. Dont be afraid to show how God has influeced you and share the light of christ with our brothers and sister in a hope that they too may become followers of christ. We provide God’s word even when we are not Appreciated, or respected, or even loved. We simply bare up take up our cross and do it. We do it because we are christians

Just as a man should not shy away from his duty as a man because it gets tough. We as Christians should not shy away from ours.

IIRC, though, the person giving that speech was persuading the main character to continue in an illegal business against the wishes of his wife, and a business which put the main character and his family at serious risk of physical harm (I can’t remember if it’s at that point or another that the same character giving the speech actually seeks to kill the main character himself.)

So, it SOUNDS good, and it’s meant to sound good and give a reasonable cause to the main character to continue in his illegal and immoral actions, but it’s actually a Screwtape-like maneuver to persuade the main character in continuing to do evil.

And by the end of the series, the main character finally admits that all those “good reasons” were actually a front - he actually did what he wanted to do because he liked it and was good at it, regardless of the harm it ended up doing to his family (and it tore his family apart, by the way.)

So? Are you saying the words in that speech are inherently evil because Gus said it in such a way and how Walt acted?

the way i relayed it it sounds good and I am giving reasonable cause to embark on moral actions that are hard to do for those good reasons.

Gus uses the words to encourage Walt to cook meth

I use the same words to encourage you to spread God’s word

But but but what about the women!!! Sorry I had too…

LOL knew that would come up. That’s why i ended it with because we are Christians instead of men of god
You should see the threads I post on masculinity and catholic manhood  it devolves quickly. Key words in a thread that will be an indicator of the type of comments

Traditional. Man, Manly, Proper Dress, VATII

say any one of those in a thread and its all over from a discussion standpoint and will probably be shut down. Put a few of those together and im sure the server would crash!

I can hear it now

“you said man with out including woman!!! Your point is invalid!”

I’d pick them coming from someone else.

The fact is that in that situation, the person saying those words is a liar and he’s persuading a man to do evil. Anyone who knows that reference is going to think trying to repurpose it for this leans toward tone deafness.

There are motivating speeches made by non-villains.
