Instead of trying to resuscitate Europe, why doesn’t Pope Benedict “let the dead bury the dead”?

The Holy Spirit supposedly moves forward not backwards.

Will we ever see a Papal Visit to China?

How is the Cardinal Kung Foundation fairing?

Let’s put another nail in the coffin of Communism. How red does China have to get with the blood of the martyrs?

The 2008 Olympics was a lost opportunity for the Church whose Corporate Bishops seem to have cloth ears.

While we’re repenting for all the past mistakes of Holy Mother Church and her Popes… If I’m not mistaken, the Jesuits almost converted the Emperor. Why not take another stab at the conversion of China?

We tried to convert Russia and that was a rip roaring success, why not give China a chance?

You pose an interesting question and one that troubles me, also. My business takes me to China periodically. One of the most heartbreaking trips was last year. I was in Beijing in early December. My hotel had a HUGE Christmas tree in the lobby and Christmas carols were playing everywhere, yet virtually no one had the slightest knowledge of religion, much less Christ.

When looking at some beautiful, old Buddhist temples, my highly educated coworkers were unable to explain there purpose. The best they could do was it had something to do with honoring the emperor. When I asked the concierge–a man who could locate a newspaper from my Midwestern hometown–where to find a church service for me, he was stumped.

I pray every day for the Chinese people.

Paul

Hi,
I’ve been to China half a year ago (in Shenzhen, near Hong Kong), and I was terrified. Not only I missed the mass (although there is a Catholic church in Shenzhen, it is 8 million people city, and taxi drivers do not speak English), but the prostitution is EVERYWHERE. And also, as I understand, there is separate Church controlled by the government, and an underground Church loyal to the Pope. I was really shocked by everything I saw 😦

Btw - I live in Europe, in Croatia, and we’ve had communist government until 1990s. During communist regime, it wasn’t as bad as it is in China (people could go to the church), but a LOT of people were denied promotions at work (for example) only because they were Catholic. And now all this materialism/consumerism is coming in the places emptied by communism 😦
