At a nearby parish, they will be holding a mission. Here is the verbiage they used in the diocese literature (names of parishes, etc. have been changed.)

“ABC Parish in My City, USA will hold a five-night mission featuring Father John Doe.”

I know one type of mission is a newly planted church but what is this type of mission? They will be making appointments for confessions, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and a Healing Mass.

Thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut,

For some reason, parishes call these events missions, possibly to distinguish from retreats, where one spends one or more nights.

It is strange. Here in the NA West, a “mission” is usually an old church built by the conquistadors!:)🙂

One of my favorite “mission” leaders is John Michael Talbot. Go to his website and see various clips of how he leads a mission. The Fathers of Mercy are also very good.
Parishes have them all the time. Many during Advent and Lent as a supplemental spiritual experience and catechesis for their parishioners.
You should go. 👍

The visiting priest is of the Fathers of Mercy. I’m excited!

Having my faith formed in a baptist church, these events remind me of what we would have called “revivals”.

LOL.
Don’t disappointed by the music, LOL God bless! Come back and tell us how it was!

Do you think my 11yr old twins would enjoy it? We are new to the Church. Is the celebration each evening a Mass like they would see at our local parish or something different? I would like to prepare them a bit. I’ll let you all know how it goes.-srfnolen

Sure, unless they specifically say “no kids”. But generally, it’s a family thing.
They don’t’ tend to be high theology…just good sound teaching and advice on our spiritual health.
Have fun!

There are Mission Churches and “Parish Missions” both to differnt degrees comm in the USA.

A Pariah Mission:; neraly always with an invited Priest who is an EXCELLENT ; even an extraordinary speaker; speaks over several days on a broad topic: for example: “How does one get to heaven” or :“what is Sin?”. or what is the Holy Spirit and the Trinity…

Everyone I have attended has been WELL worth the time and effort to do so!👍

God Bless you,

Patrick
