On EWTN there’s a program called The Church and the Poor - Building Bridges

ewtn.com/series/2005/bridges.htm

“Join Father Richard Ho Lung, founder of the Missionaries of the Poor, in downtown Kingston, Jamaica. Each year, families and individuals come to Jamaica to help Father Ho Lung and his brothers with their mission. Find out how working with the poor has brought each one closer to the Lord on their journey to holiness.”

There should be more missions, but IMO they should begin within one’s own city.

For instance, providing aid and care for single parent latch eye children and children of drug addicted parents.

Some protestant denominations are actively into foreign missions. To the point of it nearly being a parish requirement. Husbands will leave their wife & children home in the U.S. while they spend multiple months in a foreign country.

I’ve often wondered why the Church doesn’t print a booklet of the Catholic missions, run by dedicated religious - priests, sisters, brothers - who need financial help.

Also IMO, money given to the annual appeal, should only go to Catholic run organizations who are in compliance with the doctrine of the Church.

The booklet actually describes a “parish mission” where local people are encouraged to strengthen their faith together during dedicated services/meetings at their church.

Our parish often does this during Lent.
