Hello everyone,

My name is Mohammad. I’m from the middle east, living in an islamic country. I came to believe in Jesus as my Lord and saviour four years ago.

Recently, I’m facing a dilemma that kept me thinking a lot about it. If you are reading this, please be open to what I’m going to say and consider that I’m an Ex Muslim living in an Islamic state.

Basically the dilemma is related to affection and marrige. I, as a christian convert here, don’t know any other christian women! In fact, all the people around me are Muslims (some are atheists) but hardly you could find a christian in my country.

I actually fell in love with a Muslim girl, who knew that I’m a Christian and yet she accepted me as who I am. She is interested in my faith to the extent that she is willing to hear more from me if we got married, she is open to the idea of considering to be a christian.

However, is it really Okay for someone in my situation to marry a non believe? and since we are living in an Islamic state, would our marrige be considerd as sacred before God?

What are your thoughts on my situation here? Should I marry her and take the chance that she might accept christ? Would God be angry with me If our marrige is not held in a church?

Here is a quick summary of the dilemma:

1- My country doesn’t allow marrying foreigners.
2- Marriges are only done in the islamic tradition.
3- I have never met a woman believer here before.
4- I had an attraction to a Muslim opend minded girl.
5- I don’t want to remain single my entire life.
6: I’m not sure what to do and whether marrying that girl in this situation is acceptable.

Love to hear your thoughts on this.

Marrying a non-Christian is okay within the Catholic Church. The Catholic would normally request a dispensation from the local bishop to do so, which (at least in western nations) is not too much trouble.

Regarding your other circumstances, I don’t know. I have some speculation, but for now I’ll refrain from offering advice, as on the one hand I may be in error and on the other I may end up encouraging illegal (in your nation) actions, things that may put you at risk. I don’t feel like I’m enough of an expert to make the first comment on that.

Welcome to the Forum.

It might help to know what country you live in.

Hi, @Caesar98, and welcome !

Do you have any form of real-life community where you live? Is there a minister who is familiar with your country’s laws and to whom you could talk to about this? I share @Wesrock’s concerns - I wouldn’t like to give any advice that could land you into trouble.

Thanks for replying. I’m actually aware a little bit of the laws here. As far as I know, If I declared that I left Islam, this means that I might lose my job, right to get married and even cuatody. If that’s what you are asking about. For these reasons and others I’m hiding my faith.

I see.

Do you have any kind of support from other Christians where you live?

When you say you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, were you formally received into the Church in a way or the other? For example, were you baptized? Or are you alone, trying to navigate all this on your own?

Praying for you and God bless you for your courage in embracing Jesus. For us so easy, for you so costly.

Hello, @Caesar98. Welcome to CAF! I have sent you a PM with the name and email address of an Arabic-speaking priest based in Jerusalem. I’m pretty sure he’ll be able to give you authentically Catholic answers to your questions.

One other thing. It might be safer not to display your real name in your profile page.

I haven’t been baptized yet, there is no real christian community here. I’m trying to navigate this on my own as you said.

You’re welcome! In case it’s not safe, in your country, to send emails to an address in Israel, I would be happy to forward them for you.
