Thank you for sharing, i always thought they went to heaven after Christ descended to the dead and freed the spirits in prison, of course including the other saints.

Athough God knows that Adam and Eve will sin, they eventually went to heaven or paradise after all, a very lovely story.
This article on Adam and Eve is very in-depth and possibly controversial, but I do convey the traditional Eastern Catholic/Orthodox views on the two Saints. Enjoy 🙂 :

It’s not just Eastern Catholic tradition, folks. Ss. Adam and Eve were on the old Roman calendar, with their feast on Dec. 24th (logically enough). There was a famous chapel dedicated to them in Dublin, for instance; and they are often shown in Western iconography as the first ones behind Jesus in pictures of the Patriarchs coming out of the Hellmouth, or being preached to by Jesus in Sheol between His Death and Resurrection.

There’s nothing controversial about it. They were saved by Christ. They went to Heaven.

Pretty much all of the Patriarchs, Matriarchs, Prophets, and other OT figures of note have feast days in both the East and the West, and they’re usually the same days (adjusting for calendar), because they were instituted in the early centuries. Also, there are or used to be Byzantine churches in Israel at most of their birthplaces or important sites, as we know from travelogues by visitors and mosaic maps of famous pilgrimage sites.

look at the news today, look at all the immorality around, think about the 100’s of people who will take their own lives today out of despair, think of all the homosexual people who wished they were different, for all the people plagued by schizophrenia, bipolarity, depression, autism, think of the famines, wars, genocides, incest, meditate on it all, then speak to Adam and Eve to tell them, “Well done, thanks a lot”. If Adam was not born but was created, he would not have a navel, neither would Eve, right? If what the Church says about Adam and Eve is rigorously true, what they do deserve is one massive slap and certainly not to be called saints. They’re the only people I’d be sincerely glad to find they’re in hell, along with a few obvious. Next thing you’ll know, someone will suggest praying a novena to Adam and Eve… They’re the icons of Pandora’s box openers.

Yes, I agree with this whole post (although I didn’t know the West considered them Saints, very interesting). The controversy I was referring to is the Creationism vs. Evolution controversy, not whether or not they were Saints. That bit is not controversial in the slightest :o .

The word “Eastern” has been removed from the first sentence, and now it says only “Catholic” tradition 🙂 .

Just because I think it’s terminally ignorant to start a thread titled “Saints Adam and Eve” doesn’t make me a troll. Nice try, though.
You didn’t read the article, did you? I cited Catholic sources referring to them as Saints. Their Feast Day is the Vigil of Christmas. As Mintaka pointed out, their Feast Day was on the Old Roman Calendar. Their was a chapel dedicated to them in Dublin. Western iconography depicts them leading the Patriarchs into Heaven behind Jesus.

This isn’t my opinion.

I started reading the article, paused, looked at the picture of Adam and Eve, noticed they had navels, yet they were both directly created by God and not born of women, so they had no umbilical cords. I thought, “Great, back to fantasy land”. Think about the Fall, the dire consequences for the entire human race, the souls lost eternally in Hell, I understand they may be saved but let’s just leave it at that. We have plenty of recognized saints, who suffered tremendously but not due to their own disobedience, I think it’s an outrage to compare Adam and Eve to these people. If they have a place of honor in Heaven, God is just not who I thought He was.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that, in my opinion, this actually shows that God is exactly who I thought He was — a merciful Savior willing to welcome even the most destitute of sinners back into His eternal embrace.

But hey, maybe that’s just my opinionated image of Our Lord.

Right, the problem with this is that they ARE Saints.

If you didn’t read the article and you’re commenting on it anyway, that is why you’re a troll.

The title was outrageous enough, no need to read further. You’re not satisified with the saints who have been officially and properly canonized, do you feel an inner prompting to rehabilitate Adam and Eve so the new generation knows how cool they were, or that they’re great role models? Go on, be a masochist, venerate Adam and Eve. Thank them for the wonderful state they left the world in when they died.

I did say “a place of honor”. I don’t doubt there are many people who are less than honorable ,but who died repentant, in Heaven.

They are Saints. This is not my opinion or yours. They ARE. They have a Feast Day and were part of the original Roman calendar. They’re depicted in Western iconography. If you’re not reading the article and commenting on it anyway, you are a complete troll.

I also find it interesting that you’re so adamant that God didn’t show mercy on them, that you actually said you HOPED He didn’t show mercy on them. Catholics are supposed to hope that everybody is saved.

And Saints are only people who we know to be in Heaven. That’s what being a Saint means, not that they’re necessarily a wonderful model for people (even though they are; they prove that even the worst sins can be forgiven by such a wonderfully merciful God).

We may well find that the worst of sinners are considered higher than us in God’s eyes-including Saints Adam and Eve.

BTW, about the officially and properly canonized bit-until we have a good reason to believe that the early Church was wrong it is proper for us to keep the early traditions and venerate them as Saints. And the early Church knew everything about Adam and Eve that we do now-Genesis hasn’t changed.

You’re right in that being a saint means they’re in Heaven, which, if I’m not mistaken the Church says they are. But there’s more to formally canonized saints than just that, a person who has been beatified needs two testimonies of miraculous healing before the process of beatification can proceed. And usually saints had one virtue that they developped heroically. Anyhow, there are things I feel strongly about and our first parents is one them. I wouldn’t be distraught to learn they’re in hell, but I don’t actively hope they’re there, in all likelyhood they’re in heaven, so the point is moot. You’re free to do what you please. FYI a troll is someone who likes to stir up a controversy for the heck of it, I did it because I’m indignant to see “saints” next to you know who.Off to explore new threads.
