Do you think there will be any major changes in San Francisco with the appointment of the new auxiliary bishop? I hope it is ok to ask this question.

My general feeling is that it wouldn’t, knowing what role our auxiliary bishop has, but maybe it’s different out there.

Don’t know what “changes” you might be expecting. Bishop-elect McElroy is a prayerful man, graced with a keen intellect. … seems to be in keeping with our present leadership …

Without knowing what role the new auxiliary bishop with fill it’s hard to know what impact he will have. Any bishop is going to have an impact on his specific area of jurisdiction.

An auxiliary bishop may play a largely administrative role. Or he may take a more pastoral role for some region of the archdiocese. The archdiocese of San Francisco is pretty large so perhaps he will head up a pastoral region within the archdiocese?

As Bishop McFarland told us when he introduced his new auxiliary bishop: "Bishop Driscoll is a Bishop; I am the Bishop. 😃
