I just watched the trailer for this, a new comedy series on Amazon, and have very mixed feelings about it.
written by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaimen, it was apparently a well known book now made into a series about a demon and an angel working together to stave off the end of the world because they’ve grown to like the world.
one of the stars is David Tennant, who I admire a lot.
But making fun of the end of the world seems too out there to me. It’s like an attempt to inoculate viewers so they don’t take the real warnings in the Bible seriously.
Any thoughts?

I think you’re reading too much into this. Not everything is a conspiracy. I seriously doubt that your theory even occurred to either of the authors. Fantasy is what they write. The book was great fun, and I expect the series to be, also.

I know it’s not a conspiracy really, and I admire both the writers and the actors. though I tried to read Sandman and couldn’t get into it.
But something about the Biblical themes being used for a laugh track gave me chills.

Neil Gaimen is a brilliant author, I just dont know how well it will translate to screen.

I watched the first 2 episodes last night. It’s been years since I read the book, so I’m sure there’s a lot I don’t recall. But having said that, I enjoyed these episodes. I’ll continue to watch.

I’m not particularly interested, a big reason being they decided to blasphemously cast a woman as God.

I’ve seen the first few episodes so far and I really like it. I haven’t read the book tho. It’s quite funny, and I love David Tennant…

It definitely seems like the story wouldn’t be for everyone. There’s enough odd elements that might make some uncomfortable: an angel and a demon being friends, a feminine God, satanic nuns, etc. It is fantasy though, so it doesn’t have to be real. 🤷‍♀️

Obviously, the theology in the series is horrendous. But you don’t watch it to get theological information. Having just finished the series, it is funny and clever at times. However, what rubbed me the wrong way is how Heaven was treated as similar if not equal to Hell. They are just two powers warring while humanity (and Sheen and Tennant’s characters) are stuck in the middle. Humanity was exalted while the spiritual was looked upon as a hindrance. There were a few jabs about religion throughout besides the obvious humor surrounding an angel and a demon teaming up to stop the End of the World.

Don’t get me wrong, the series was well done in my opinion as far as a TV series goes. But the theology was horrible and one can tell that the show is not a huge fan of Christianity.

I will give them credit, however, for treating the Crucifixion in a sensitive way.
