I would not vote for it.
However, I would vote for legislation that would grant individuals (married or unmarried) the right to the same benefits that married couples currently have, assuming they meet certain requirements, for example, they have other shared expenses and want shared lower insurance costs, and they are not deep sea cave divers, or members of fight clubs. Obviously this is hyperbole, but if the issue is about benefits, then we should make it about benefits, not about marriage or civil union.
People should be treated with certain rights not because of their creed or sexual orientation, but because they are human beings, God’s children. But at the same time, we shouldn’t confuse rights and respect with moral relativism.
