Sorry to sound dumb, but what exactly is apologetics? The dictionary couldn’t break it down simple enough for me.

A definition from MSN Encarta:

Apologetics
*branch of Christian theology: a branch of theology that is concerned with proving the truth of Christianity ( takes a singular verb ) *

I found many definitions, but this is the most straightforward (without being inaccurate).

I believe more specifically, it is the branch of Catholic Theology that explains and defends the claims of the Catholic Church, which includes Christianity. There are Protestant apologist who explain and defend they prespective of Christianity, however, only a Catholic Apologist can give you the full story, because only the Catholic Church has the full story.

I didn’t pick the title Apologetics, and I don’t apoligize for being Catholic, just defend through explaining.

Apologize no :nope:

Apologia,

Since all Catholics are Christians, but not all Christians are Catholics, you cannot speak of the Catholic Church as including Christianity.

Catholic apologetics is a branch of Catholic theology
Orthodox apologetics is a branch of Orthodox theology
Protestant apolgetics is a branch of Protestant theology

Apologetics is a branch of Christian theology, which further breaks down into Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant apologetics

Each of those can be said to break down further into the apologetics of their respective constituent parts.

Many years,

Neil

Since the Catholic Church has declared that it contains the FULL deposit of faith, it is the only one that can teach, explain, and defend the fullness of the Christian message. Any other sect of non-Catholic apologetics is going to be deficient in one or more aspects. If they were not deficient, they would contain the fullness of the Gospel, which would make them Catholic. I cannot see a scenario where someone could teach the fullness of the Gospel appart from the Catholic Church. ALl other as perspectives of Christianity, which are colored by their paradigms.
