Questions for any A.R.M.Y on this forum
  1. Who is your bias?
  2. How much time do you spend watching BTS videos 😛
  3. Do you ever feel like you’re giving them too much of your time/ attention instead of focusing on your spiritual/ prayer life ?
  4. Have you ever questioned yourself for idolizing them?
  5. Do you feel like they’ve made a positive/negative impact on your life?

It’s posts like this, that make me think that I’m getting old. Nothing you did wrong, I’m just from a different time. I don’t know what you’re talking about.

I think I know what BTS is, because I have teenage sisters, I don’t know what the rest of that is, to me it’s gibberish.

My 30+ yr old daughter can’t get enough of them. Posters and other paraphernalia all over the place. Constantly watching the videos on her phone. She has flown to a concert in New York. She has driven around 100 miles to an event where she and other BTS fans watch the group on a video screen.

It sure looks like an obsession to me, and it really concerns me. However, she is recently divorced, and has gone through a lot of pain due to her former spouse, so my wife and I are trying to see it as a way for her to get some joy back in her life.

But I am concerned. What is huge draw with these guys?

As a person who used to laugh at people who were into BTS and their music I totally understand why you may think of it as an obsession and what your concerns may be.

Let me tell you why I really like them. I came across one of their performances by pure accident while going through youtube videos. I watched their performance and honestly it was mermerizing. I had never seen anything like it! They had catchy music and powerful choreography. Now I have never been a person who goes crazy over bands or musicians but I was really curious and wanted to know who these people are and how a small band from Korea made such a huge impact in western media. So I read up and did my research.

At the end of it all I found that they’re a group of 7 absoluteley genuine and humble men. Just like me, they’re in their twenties and their commitment to what they do is really inspiring. They started out as nobodys, been through A LOT and have reached where they are today through pure hardwork.

As for their music, their music is just different. Unlike your usual POP songs that talk about love, sex and drugs and are just shallow…Their songs go deeper and talk about stuff that society likes to sweep under the rug . Their lyrics are poetic master pieces. That is why, contrary to popular belief, their fanbase is one of the most diverse fanbases in the world (Age, Race and Gender). You will find anyone from a little kid to a person over 60 at a BTS concert. I’ve attached a picture of an old couple that were spotted at a BTS concert in the states and that’s just one tiny example.

So honestly, when people actually get to know their music without having stereotypes of them singing in a foreign language and “having teenagers as fans”, there in no way you CAN’T appreciate their music. In today’s world where the media and the music industry like feeding us garbage, BTS are more than a breath of fresh air.

I also think that one of the reasons your daughter is really drawn to them is because one of the messages that BTS spread through many of their songs is about self acceptance and loving who you are. They say that even through you might have flaws and weaknesess, you’re still a beautiful and unique human being.

Yes, this is certainly true. She has told us about their “love yourself” theme.

My daughter isn’t into them.

She self taught the base and likes classic rock, and John Denver oddly enough. She’s 15.

John Denver is great! It’s okay if she’s not into BTS but it’s good that she isn’t into the other pop music that spread plain garbage through their lyrics.
