How did it affect you if at all when you were a child, living with both your parents but only sharing your surname with one parent and not the other?

Did you ever ask them why you had a different surname to your mother or father?

Thanks.

That was a long, long time ago. After a few decades, it still affects me and it will affect me till death.

Because for me it was both parents and I had no one to ask questions. But the name, which I share with both my parents for they were loving people but could not get along with each other, as the minor problem.

Simply told, the problem was missing them, and I still miss, though they would not be alive otherwise.

Fortunately, God gave to me loving aunties and cousins, 2 nice sisters, good education and a faith in God who has led me lighting the way through dark alleys.

Thank You, my God!

Well, my Mom kept the same last name as my Dad due to the fact they got married at 18 and were married 23 years so she had her married name longer than her maiden name. So no issue there. I don’t ever remember my Dad living at our house growing up although they got separated when I was 6. I remember I didn’t particularly like visiting my Dad on Sundays because he was always big into New Age. I never had a room or anywhere to stay at his house, so I never “lived” at his house. I had a pretty happy childhood from what I can remember. I understood from the beginning what divorce was and that my parents weren’t together anymore. I never wanted my parents to be together or had any problem with them being split. I did feel though, later on, that my Dad wanted to chase new women more than he wanted to stay and be a father and husband.

The question is about parents who were cohabiting, rather than divorce, right?
