So, I have the knights of columbus initiation ceremony to become a member tomorrow. Looking forward to developing my spiritual life, but I have a question on what I should expect in the initiation ceremony:

As of now, I am not in a state of grace. Normally, if I need to go to confession, I go to the confession on Sunday night before mass at my church, but the ceremony is happening well before that.

Will I need to be in a state of grace for the ceremony by tracking down a priest who is willing to hear my confession or can I safely go to confession in the evening?

You can go to confession later in the evening. Even if you are in the state of mortal sin temporarily, you can still be a practicing Catholic gentleman in full communion with the pope, which is the main things required of knights.

I recently became a Knight of Columbus, November of last year. It’s an honorable ceremony and I think that you will love it. It feels good to be a part of the brotherhood of knights. I recommend participating with the activities of your local council as much as possible. I see that your main question was already answered and I will concur that confession right before isn’t necessary for your initiation, though for your own sake you seem to already know that confession in general is important. Welcome soon to be brother knight! 👍

Exactly. As long as you’re officially Catholic, haven’t fallen away, and aren’t living in a marital relationship not recognized by the Church, you’re probably good.
