First and foremost I would like to acknowledge that the category might be wrong however I apologise in advance. My question to my fellow Catholics would be about my parish, I feel like the parish that I have gone to for many years is focusing on just Spanish speakers, now I have no issues since I speak Spanish however people that close to me sit in mass and don’t understand what is going on, due to the language barrier and the priest doesn’t focus on others by making English masses “spanglish”. I do not know what I could possibly do to change this so the community becomes more open to others who aren’t of Latino origin. It has been raised to the priests before however they brush it off and say that there isn’t a strong enough want from English speakers to cater to them? What are your thoughts ? It would be greatly appreciated and thank you for your time.

I do know Spanish the concern was to those who don’t speak Spanish at all, the English mass is not even entirely in English which is difficult

Honestly, If people around you don’t speak Spanish and feel isolated I see only two choices, either they move to an English speaking parish or they stay and try to learn the basics of Spanish so they break the language barrier. If most people in the parish are Spanish speakers is pretty reasonable that the parish focus is mostly on that population.

Or a mass that is listed as an ENGLISH mass could be said in ENGLISH.

There is no Spanglish Missal. The priests in the English mass should be speaking English.

The mass is listed as English however the priest does both and doesn’t finished the mass in English and speaks during the homily it’s said in Spanish mostly which is hard to listen to when you’re trying to translate to others who don’t understand

If the Mass is listed as English I would expect the readings to be in English. Maybe the ‘spanglish’ is more in the choice of songs, traditional devotions, homily etc. I am wondering if this English/Spanish Mass is mostly for people born in US but of Latino heritage so expected to speak or at least understand both languages. .
