From a strictly sola scriptura perspective, meaning that scripture alone is the Christians one and only authority, as opposed to any one person or church leadership - weren’t the Ebionites, Montanists, Arians, Pelagians, and the other sectarian offshoots of the Catholic Church, through the centuries - who had all deferred to the scriptures alone as their final authority, (as opposed to deference to Church authority) - entitled to the same rights to believe what they believed to be truth, just as any sola scriptura proponent today, as per the practice of sola scriptura, has the right to believe what he or she believes to be truth?
