I’m not sure where to put this but I’m sure someone knows. I am writing a history paper involving Pope John Paul II. I was wondering should one capitalize;

Holy Father, His Holiness,the Pope, et cetera.

or should you just be consistent?

The terms you mentioned are all titles for the Pope and yes they should all be capitalized. Consistently.😉 Good luck with your paper.

Another title that has fallen out of favour in recent years (but remains a favourite with us traditional Catholics) is “Supreme Pontiff”.

If you want to refer to his absolute authority a useful one is “Universal Patriarch”.
