Rosary question: If I say 15 decades a day, starting with the Joyful mysteries, then say the Sorrowful and Glorious mysteries later in the day, do I have to repeat the Creed etc with the 2nd and 3rd mysteries?

Litany question: One Sacred Heart litany I say has “sanctify your priests” as the response. Can I say the regular “have mercy on us” litany and add “sanctify your priests” at the same time? Or should I say two litanies.

Thanks for any responses. 🙂

In this case the Rosary is a personal devotion. There are no hard and fast rules.

HelenRose is correct, however, I have my own personal set of rules. If I’m traveling any distance, I 'll finish one set of mysteries and then take a 10 minute “break” before beginning the next set. I never begin the second set with the intro prayers and I never finish the first set with the closing prayers. If the time is going to be more than just a few minutes, I’ll close the Rosary with the Salve Regina and a few others that I use for closing. Later I’ll begin again and start with the opening prayers.

Prayer is never a waste of time.

God Bless

Think of the mysteries as a complete prayer.
So, yeah, after a short break, you would say the Creed again, or at least I would.
Don’t forget the Luminous mysteries! They complete the timeline of the life of Christ.
We don’t want to skip His public ministry. 👍

Since it’s private devotion, you don’t negate anything by omitting the creed even though I wouldn’t. 🤷

I learned the 3 mystery rosary as a child and can’t get used to Luminous -, Mon Joyful, Tues Sorrowful, Wed Glorious, Thurs Joyful, Fri Sorrowful, Sat and Sun Glorious. Luminous throw me off, and ever since I heard a priest compare the original 153 Hail Marys to the 153 fish that the Apostles caught, John 21:11, I like it even more. An overflowing blessing in a net that doesn’t break. Lots of other info about 153 (fish in Bible) if you google that. Thanks!

👍 To add a little bit of variety, Tradition in some countries state one may pray either The Act of Contrition or the Creed.

Enjoy praying the Rosary! Happy praying!

Pax et Bonum! Rosary - one can never pray enough! I personally would not do the Creed again simply because I would be keeping the mysteries all in one rosary - even though the decades are apart in minutes or hours…ending of course with Hail Holy Queen.

Litany - one can add prayers as I have seen this done often, but I wonder if it is best to stay with the way the prayer was written and approved by the Church - as is done for public/community prayer. Personal prayers as we know, are from our heart and a simple conversation with God. angeltime:gopray2:

Well, it wouldn’t total up to 153.
It would be 159, so that analogy, while rather fanciful wouldn’t add up. Unless you also skip the Our Fathers and Glory Be’s as well as the first three Hail Mary’s in each Mystery. Which of course, you wouldn’t do.

I got “used” to them rather easily as it completes the timeline of the life of Christ.
I also pray whichever ones I want on whatever day I want.
It’s a private devotion and you’re not doing it wrong to include other mysteries on any day of the week.

There much info online about the history of the Rosary . 🙂

Unless you are doing this publically in church these are private devotions and you may do as you like.

I say the 15 mysteries and don’t repeat the creed and such if doing more than 5 in a day, as it is a continuation of the Rosary not a new start.

Yes, it was only the Hail Mary’s. 150 for the mysteries and the 3 at beginning. Thanks.👍
