A rushed daily Mass?

I go to a 6:30am morning mass during the week as I have to get to work. Usually they are around 25 minutes, but we have one priest who usually does not give a homily and I think once it was 20 minutes.

Given that for the early morning masses the congregation is almost guaranteed to all have to get to work or school I could live with a 15 minute mass as long as the priest does not seem rushed. I really enjoy homily’s but they are optional and if the priest uses one of the shorter eucharistic prayers then you could have a mass be short & reverent in 15 minutes.

Our weekday OF Mass is generally 45-60 minutes, and our Sunday OF Mass is generally 60-90 minutes. Our Saturday morning Latin OF Mass is generally around 60. All with homilies and usually with the 2nd Eucharistic Prayer (although I’d prefer a shorter homily with the Roman Canon…)

our daily mass’ at our cathedral vary depending on who’s celebrating. normally when our rector is celebrating mass, it’s about 40 minutes, he usually has a good homily, and our prayers of the faithful are open for the congregants to add there own prayers verbally. we have an opening hymn, a closing hymn, and we sing the sanctus, and the memorial acclamation and the great amen. When our Bishop celebrates a daily mass, he gets us out of there in about 30 minutes. I remember my dad telling me stories back in the old days (pre V2) when priests use to compete as to who could say the fastest sunday low mass, some as fast as 15 minutes.

Where I usually attend daily Mass (St-Joseph’s Oratory, Montreal, always the 7 am Mass before work), it’s about 25 minutes, maybe 30 if it’s a feast day. Short homily. No music though occasionally one of the priests will chant some parts. Rubrics always followed faithfully within the variations clearly allowed (different penitential rites, for example).

At the Benedictine abbey where I attend Sunday Mass and very occasionally weekday Mass, the weekday Mass is about 50 minutes, but has chanted propers and ordinary, no organ unless it’s a feast.

What I really like about the Oratory: getting there about 40 minutes before Mass, and quietly reading Vigils and Lauds before Mass. It’s always very, very quiet before the 7 am Mass, before all the tourists show up. Very conducive to prayer and meditation.

Over here: Daily masses lasts about 30-40 mins and highmasses on sunday lasts for 60-65 mins. I attend masses in two different places. The priests are calm and don`t rush it.

Every mass has got it`s own soul and is such a beautyful experience every time.
👍

If a mass should be rushed? From my point of view: no. A mass is not a show, it`s our
way to stay close to the Lord, meet with him and be with him. Valuable time.

Mass shouls never be rushed, its disrespectful to our Lord.

My school has a Mass every morning that lasts about 20 to 25 minutes. No songs and a short homily. Then there is a Mass once a week for the whole school which is usually 45 minutes to an hour.
I don’t like it all when the Mass is rushed. That is just the way some priests are, however. Some people are more fast paced than others–you can see it when they walk. There is not much you can do about it. Our priest rushes Mass all the time–I don’t know what the reason is but he implies sometimes that people complain if Mass is too long. But even his daily Masses seemed rushed.
Not always so. I know two priests who a very fast paced in everything they do **except **when they celebrate Mass.
