A priest asked the congregation to name a saint (s) who did not suffer.

I believe there are none…out of the 700-800 Roman Catholic saints.

But I am curious if anyone here knows of one.

Thank you ~ blessings ~ 🙂

All of us suffer, saints or not, in various ways and to various degrees.

But if you partake of the sufferings of Christ, rejoice that when his glory shall be revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. (1 Peter 4:13)

For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us: so also by Christ doth our comfort abound. (2 Corinthians 1:5)

BTW - there are closer to 10 000 recognized saints and blesseds - not 700-800.

Methinks that was your priest’s point.

One cannot be a saint without extensive suffering.

More to the point, one cannot be a human being without significant suffering, owing to the vulnerability of our bodies, and the brokenness of our interpersonality.

And it depends on his definition of suffering. Mental, physical or both? We all suffer if only in the labor pangs of kicking ourselves out into this world. Some suffer more than others, some greatly. I think of the people that are now being crucified and sacrificed in the Middle East, esp. the children.
