We’re getting our marriage blessed – validated – after 11 years of marriage, and wonder if anyone has any suggestions as to how this is usually done. I’d prefer a quiet time with our two witnesses and our children, maybe after the Sunday mass? Then would the people still in church stay for the blessing? Does one then invite whoever attended to a reception?
Has anyone else done this?

We had our marriage blessed this year after 19 years of marriage. We did it on a Saturday afternoon (@3:30) in the chapel at our church, invited 10 other couples (our closest friends) and family. Our priest assisted us with selecting scripture readings, we asked our music director to play (he has a small electronic piano) and sing (he selected the music), I sent out invitations and everyone came! It was a beautiful ceremony, our priest gave a lovely homily, and there was not a single dry eye. My best friend and witness read the first two scriptures. Our music director sang the psalm (103 has beautiful words) . I bought a new dress (business suit) and my husband bought a new suit. We had a dinner party for our reception at 6:30 and invited all the guests as well as our priest. It was a glorious and meaningful day, much more so than our first wedding which was performed by a JP. Our married friends, most of whom are not Catholic, all were moved by the scriptures, the psalm (103) and the meaning of marriage.

I highly recommend you make it special!
