A sickness of the soul

The two deputies ambushed and shot while just sitting in their patrol car, then “protesters” chanting outside of the hospital, “I hope they die!” – folks, all of this hatred and wanton lawlessness, violence and disregard for human life goes much deeper than any political affiliation.

It’s a sickness of the soul.

It goes deeper than any of the injustices that are being protested. It goes deeper than historical sensitivities. It’s deeper than mere culture.

It’s a sickness of the soul.

Only through a sick soul can so much hatred run so deeply and be so long-lasting and protracted. It has become hate for the sake of hating.

When people can’t be reasoned with anymore, when all sanity has flown out the window, and only hate is left, that’s a dysfunctional conscience.

I believe that’s what’s ultimately behind all of this – a collective as well as individual sickness of the soul.

At some point, God is going to have to step in, as much of our society has gone off the rails and is out of control. And it appears that the powers that be have lost the ability and willingness to restore order, and more and more, innocent people within communities are left to fend for themselves.

These are dangerous times – because all sense of decency and respect for the differences between right and wrong is gone. These criminals have devolved into rabid animals stampeding through the streets. They’ve lost their humanity.

God is going to have to intervene. When and how remains to be seen, but it has to happen.

I do believe the Lord will intervene. He will do so because He loves us very much.

And it is the part of all of us believers to love our enemies and pray much for them, to adore the Lord and allow Him to sanctify us.

I was following and nodding in agreement until this point. We must resist this thought. Denial of the humanity of others is a huge part of the problem on all sides. The protesters probably tell themselves that the police are sub-human or animals.

Each and every protester is a human being, created in the image and likeness of God, and loved by God. How can we help them to turn away from hatred and violence?

Yeah. You’re right. I’m just so disgusted with innocent people getting hurt and killed at the hands of these hoodlums, and nobody is doing anything about it.

But, yeah. They’re people who, by their behaviors, are showing they care little about others.

It’s the hatred and insanity of the mob. One on one most of the individuals may be sane and reasonable, but when they enter into mob they get caught up in the mob psychology. The mob respects nobody or nothing – authorities, elderly people, civilization itself. They get addicted to the visceral pleasure of the mob righteous hatred and the euphoria of the power of being part of something greater than themselves. It gives them a sense of purpose. They enjoy it too much to stop. They can’t be appeased. Only force will stop them. While we are waiting for God to step in in might be a good idea to put an end to it ourselves. If we wait for God it might be too late.

As the author of Maccabees writes, “If it is well written and to the point, that is what I wanted; if it is poorly done and mediocre, that is the best I could do.”
