I have a certain sin at the time I had no idea it was a mortal sin but once I gained more understanding about the difference between mortal and venial sins, I remembered that particular sin just out of the blue it happened 2 years ago I can never bring myself to confess it the last time I was in confession the sin was on my mind the whole time I know you’ll probably say “the priest has heard it all” but it doesn’t make a difference to me the sin is so bad I just can’t confess it can I just get anointed when I die and the sin will be forgiven? When I go to confession I confess all the other sins

Bro I just came back from the hardest confession of my life today. Was very scared bc the stuff i had done was bad and im never telling another person about it. BUT jesus gave me the power to go and confess and its amazing, you will feel so much better after, dont let this sin weigh you down.

If you think it’s too uncomfortable to bring to a priest, it’s DEFINITELY going to be too uncomfortable to carry around for the rest of your life. God is merciful. Bring it to Him and be absolved. :pray:t2:❤️

All the best.

Go to confession behind the screen, maybe in a parish that you have never been to. That will make it easier. Also, pray to God asking for strength to confess the sin.

Nobody here is noting that, if you “had no idea” that your sin was one of grave matter, then it is not a mortal sin. Nonetheless, I would confess it anyway, because it seems to be burdening you seriously. Just do it; don’t let it afflict your conscience.

Please understand as well the willful concealment of a mortal sin in the confessional is itself a mortal sin and invalidates your entire confession. Because the full knowledge aspect was lacking, it does not look here like that was in play. Again, though, I would note to your confessor that you concealed this. I think you should do this for the sake of the development of your conscience. I take it from your writing style that you are young. This would be a good moment for your confessor to straighten out any views regarding your relationship to the confessional, and, indeed, to the Sacraments generally and to the Church, that may be leading you astray or afflicting your moral sense. It is important to do this before such matters as concealment of sin become a habit. I doubt you need to worry that you are living in mortal sin based on this event two years ago, but you should be proactive lest shame prevent you from confessing another volitional sin in the future. Please lay this dilemma before a confessor; he will be please to help you overcome this quandary of conscience.

Technically if you were not aware of it at the time it’s possible it’s not mortal. Tell the priest you did not know at the time. don’t let the devil hold this over you trust I’m gods mercy confess

For one, if you had no idea it was a grave matter, it couldn’t have been a mortal sin. Sins don’t suddenly become mortal after the fact because you’re more knowledgeable now.

Second off, just confess it. Seriously. There’s nothing so bad that you’ll shock the priest. I’ve heard everything. I remember very little of it. Just state it plainly and get past it. I promise you it’ll feel better than holding on to it. There’s nothing so bad that it’ll make the priest think differently of you. Honestly, I’m impressed that people bring out the difficult things.

Lastly, think about it: you can talk about this on an internet forum, why not to a priest? You can expose your conscience, even if not terribly specifically, to strangers on the internet, but not to the priest who acts in the person of Christ? One will heal you, the other will not. Confess it and move on.

You are in my prayers.

If you “had no idea it was a mortal sin” I’m guessing that it can’t be anything too bad! If it’s more that you’re just embarrassed to talk about it with your regular priest, you could just go to a church where nobody knows you. But, seriously, I’m sure your regular priest won’t be too surprised by anything you have to say.

I remembered that particular sin just out of the blue it happened 2 years ago I can never bring myself to confess it the last time I was in confession the sin was on my mind the whole time I know you’ll probably say “the priest has heard it all” but it doesn’t make a difference to me the sin is so bad I just can’t confess it
Remember your confessing to Jesus in the confessional ,priest are his representative ,confess it ,and don,t carry it all your life ,your cant receive holy communion after you realized it’s a mortal sin right!,you can experience God’s forgiving love that sets you free. Sirach 4:26 26 Do not be ashamed to confess your sins, and do not try to stop the current of a river.Proverb 28:13 No one who conceals transgressions will prosper, but one who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.
can I just get anointed when I die and the sin will be forgiven? When I go to confession I confess all the other sins
How do you know, when are you going to die, death comes like a thief ,we need to be prepared always as said in Sirach 14:12 Remember that death does not tarry, and the decree of Hades has not been shown to you.Proverbs 19:21 The human mind may devise many plans, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will be established. Sirach 5:7 Do not delay to turn back to the Lord, and do not postpone it from day to day;for suddenly the wrath of the Lord will come upon you,and at the time of punishment you will perish.

Rosie, you will feel so much better after you confess it. It will literally feel like a load off your shoulder. withholding a sin, is a sin in itself! No sin is unforgivable and trust me when I say the priests have heard it all!! Private message me if you like

It is not about the sin, it is about your contrition. I always prepare myself by working on my contrition. My goal is always perfect contrition. As long as I can honestly say to the priest that I’m firmly determined not to commit this sin again, then the sin is unimportant. And as it happens, when I’m at that point and go to confession and pour my heart it is like the priest can see through me and briefly sends me on my way. God is merciful.

Rosie, I think you have been given very good advice here. The best thing for you to do is to go to confession. The priest is not there to judge you. Please avail yourself of this sacrament and free yourself of this burden. There is not a single one of us who has not had a difficult or embarrasing confession. Please put things into perspective and see your pastor.

at the time I had no idea it was a mortal sin
If you have no idea it was a moral sin, you must mean grave matter. It would not be a mortal sin if you did not know it to be grave matter, assuming you were not willfully negligent to find out.

Catechism
1857 For a sin to be mortal , three conditions must together be met: “Mortal sin is sin whose object is grave matter and which is also committed with full knowledge and deliberate consent.”

Rosie, I know how you feel. There was always one sin that I felt too ashamed to confess. But unlike you, I didn’t always remember it when I gathered up the courage to confess it.

One day, I gave up trying to remember to confess that sin. (It was something very traumatic that happened before I reached the age of reason.) At the end of my Confession, I said, “For these and the sins of my past life, I ask pardon of God and penance and absolution of you, Father.” Then I listened to the advice of my priest which really spoke to my soul. I feel that sin from long ago was forgiven along with others I couldn’t always remember at the time.

But yes, priests have heard it all. Also, I believe God has given them the gift of forgetting a person’s sins after he has heard them and given the penitent absolution and penance.
