A sin that you don't mean to do?

What if you sin, but had no intentions of sinning?
Like if you’re forced to do something against your will or you’re afraid to say no to someone who is malipulating you. So if you don’t want to sin and have no intentions of sinning, what happens? Do you still get punished for it after you go to confession?

A sin, especially a mortal sin, requires full consent of will; so you cannot be forced to sin. That said, if the sin comes about because you simply chose the easy road (i.e giving in to something immoral simply to make your life easier), then that would mean that your will committed to it. I guess the answer to your question is a tentative no. I’m sure someone else will post with a more eloquent answer 😛

Also, you are not “punished” for actions after confession. Your priest may have you do penance, but that is not punishment, that is a way to bring you closer to God and to reinforce your desire to do good. Confession absolves you of your sins, you are forgiven. So long as you make a valid confession (don’t hold back, tell every sin you can recall, etc.) you’re good to go, and you need not worry about your past sins anymore, except to help guard you against committing more sins int eh future.

If you are referring to Purgatory, then you need not think about it as a punishment. Purgatory is a call for celebration, because if you make it to purgatory, you’ve made it to Heaven, you WILL be with God, Jesus, Mary and everyone else who has made it throughout all of eternity; your salvation is assured. Indeed, reaching purgatory calls for exultation.

This. And again, tentatively speaking, if it’s an accident, it’s not a sin.

Think of Purgatory this way: A lot of public buildings have a little entry room where people can wipe their shoes/boots off if it’s wet or snowy. Purgatory is the same thing to heaven. It purifies us one last time before we can be with the big guy

I concur with what the above two have already said, but would like to add this.

You said, “Like if you’re forced to do something against your will or you’re afraid to say no to someone who is malipulating you.”

In certain circumstances, this could be a sin. If a person is doing evil and you say nothing to counter it when you are in a position to do so, you are consenting by silence. I am not saying it is always like this, but it could be put that way.

Other than that, being forced into something is not a sin. It is doubly a sin on the head of the person who forces you, not you.

An accident is not a sin. The very nature of a sin is that it is done it with knowledge and consent.
