A sin to receive communion from other denominations?

Hello, I’m a recently converted Catholic from the Lutheran tradition. Since my conversion, I’ve only attended Catholic Mass, and no other Christian services. However, I do still maintain ties with the Lutheran church that I grew up in, and I have many other good friends who are both Lutheran and other denominations of Christian.

I’m wondering what the Catholic stance is on receiving communion at these services is? I know at least the Lutheran Church is okay with people from other denominations receiving communion as long as they have had their First Communion in that denomination. I also know that the Catholic Church asks that non-Catholics refrain from receiving the Eucharist at Mass.

So I guess the long and the short of this post is, would it be a sin to receive communion at a non-Catholic church?

Yes, it would be. This page covers the topic reasonably well.

Basically, it would be a betrayal of the Truth to carry out the actions of communion in a church which has, by rejecting and denying various aspects of that Truth, removed itself from communion with the Church. Moreover, since Holy Communion is the sacramental act of partaking in the Body and Blood of Christ, it is a fundamental contradiction for a Catholic to attempt to do this in a church whose sacraments – due to lack of orders, lack of Apostolic succession, or lack of belief in the veracity of the sacraments themselves – are invalid.

In extreme cases, we may receive from Churches whom we recognize as having valid Orders and Apostolic Succession, therefore valid 7 Sacraments. They are:

Eastern Orthodox Church
Oriental Orthodox Church
Assyrian Church of the East
Armenian Orthodox
Syriac Orthodox

It is perfectly fine to maintain your friendships from your previous church, and even attend their services once in a while for something special, but now that you are Catholic, you are not allowed to receive communion from any other denomination and your non-Catholc guests may not receive in a Catholic Church. We are working on Christian Unity, but the progress is slow.

Thanks for the info! I was assuming that it would be a sin, I just wanted some confirmation.
