I’ll be leaving for Latvia very soon(for life), and I was wondering if anyone had a site, or even better, a location in Latvia to find a the Latin mass? I am moving for a lifestyle change, and I have much help from someone there, but I would like to not burden him anymore than helping me in my move and way to citizenship. I had no idea where to post this thread, so I choose the traditional sub-forum. Thank you very much for any and all help!

Hi. I’m afraid I can’t help you find a Tridentine Mass in Latvia (although I will try to find out), but I am fascinated by the fact that you are moving there.

Could you please tell me how this came to be, and why? I have been thinking of doing something similar, and have looked at Bulgaria among other places.

Thanks in advance, and God bless you.

Hello! 🙂

After some digging, I came across this info: it seems that there’s a Latin Mass at the St. James Cathedral in Riga, Latvia. The Cathedral is sometimes referred to as the St. Jacob’s Cathedral, apparently because the Latvian wording for James/Jacob is either similar or identical.

Here is a video of a Latin Mass at the Cathedral: youtube.com/watch?v=GmzRngAWb_Y

And another video of the same place: tvclips.info/video/GmzRngAWb_Y/tridentine-mass-in-riga-latvia.html

On another blog, I saw a random poster mention that it is only celebrated on Fridays, but as their post was from 2011, I don’t know if that’s still accurate.

Anyhow, I hope that’s of some help.

God bless, you’ll be in my prayers!
