The upcoming biopic A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is being released next month and it’s based on an experience someone had when they interviewed Fred Rogers. Last year, the documentary Won’t You Be My Neighbor also hit theaters and there was a moment in it that really healed me. It showed a clip of Daniel Tiger singing a song about how he felt that he was a mistake and Lady Aberlin tries to assure him that he is just fine. From late 2015 to spring 2016, I felt that way as well. Hollywood and a lot of the world were being very anti-Catholic and I felt that being raised Catholic was a mistake. I did keep my faith and it took me a while to get better, but this song really healed me. I no longer felt like a mistake at all. Here it is and it’s called “Sometimes I Wonder if I’m a Mistake”.

MISTER ROGERS’ NEIGHBORHOOD | Lady Aberlin and Daniel Tiger Talk and Sing About Mistakes | PBS KIDS

I grew up on Mr Rogers and I realize looking back that he was one of only two positive voices in my childhood. I suspect this was the case for more than a few.

Can we propose his case for Sainthood? 🤓

My 2 year-old niece is also a huge fan of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. I’m glad that there is a show that is continuing the important messages that Fred Rogers was giving all of those years ago.

Since there is actually going to be an actress playing Betty Aberlin in the movie A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood I really do hope that they recreate the scene where she and Daniel Tiger sing that song.

Too bad they took him off of PBS Kids! I thought it was interesting how the show disappeared shortly after his biography came out detailing how he tried to infuse Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood with Christian values.

I’m glad that episodes can at least be watched online.

Doubt that was the cause, pretty well known he trained as a minister. I think they took him off pbs kids for newer shows. Which is truly sad, while many new shows are wonderful, I would worry if the powers that be think that today’s kids don’t appreciate it. My kids love Mr. Rogers, and I find they are less overstimulated compared to other shows.

In the UK, too, I think that children’s TV used to be better. These are some of the best things we used to have on TV:

The Sooty Show:

Rainbow:

Button Moon:

After those it became rather high-tech.

I’m so looking forward to Tom Hanks as Fred Rogers! I know he will do an amazing job. I saw the documentary film in theaters soon after it came out which I enjoyed a lot.

YES this.

What made Mr. Rogers great was that it was a slow paced, meaningful visit with someone you saw as a friend. Mr. Rogers Neighborhood was meant to be a gentle place to think and talk about meaningful topics, even dark topics at times, in a way that children can relate to in a calm atmosphere that didn’t feel the overt need to pump the mind with bright stimulants and fast paced action in order to distract! The sad truth is that many kids these days probably wouldn’t have the patience for such a show. Case in point: my younger siblings got bored with it quickly when I tried to show it to them. Its the serotonin obsessed nature of modern society that prevents such shows like this from being successful now. It’s a shame really.

@Psychae

Hugs to you!

Just wanted to say that I just saw the ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood’ film…

It was so, so, SO, so, good!

The way it was done was just perfection! I don’t want to say too much to spoil anything. It’s powerful, and tender, and wholesome, and was everything I hoped it would be and more! Tom Hanks embodied the warmth and feeling of Fred Rodgers to a T.

I liked the film a lot. Although they did sort of change the scene that I loved so much from the series by singing a different song, but that’s all right.
