Hello,

I attend secondary school. It is a state school, and a very liberal one at that. I have been given a speech assignment, that is a very important assessment. My topic is “Why the Catholic Church is the greatest force for good in the world”. Unfortunately, I may get into trouble if I praise how the Church has stood against moral evils. This is because of my school’s very liberal stance. Does anybody have any ideas about what I could say to accurately defend the faith.

Yours in Christ and His Blessed Mother

How about focus on the positive elements such as how the church started many hospitals, shelters, and relief efforts. How the church gave us the university system of learning.

Peace!!!

Often when I gave those sorts of presentations there were a few minutes for questions at the end. Be prepared to be asked all manner of things about the abuse scandals.

I’m honestly not sure how I would answer them. But people are going to want to know how the biggest force for good on Earth can abuse so many children.

So have something prepared.

Easy. Remind them how Judas Iscariot, being an Apostle and having performed miracles, fell away and betrayed Jesus. Jesus did not promise impeccability when he founded the Church.

If you think meeting the anger, and proper anger, of many many people with that makes the whole thing go away “easy” you have another thing coming. It’s not just about being right. It’s about convincing people.

Anger is a bad path to take. Anyhow I do not want to derail the thread. Bye.
