We need more Catholics to be strong opponents of homoseuxal acts! 🙂

a minor quip;

There is no such thing as a single gay life style just as there is no such thing as a single straight life style. Would you call “a swinger club” the “Straight life style?”

I am not suggesting that Catholics change their doctrines in favor of homosexuality and adopt a Buddhist approach but I am saying that the inordinate emphasis on gay sex is at best misguided and at worst destructive.

Here is a Buddhist opinion which deals which is much more instructive in educating us to the destructive nature of inappropriate and exploitative sex whether gay and straight.

“The Zen tradition deals with sexuality within the broader category of sensual indulgence…Both hedonism and ascetic masochism are violations of the Middle Path.” 4 Sexual practices which harm, manipulate, or exploit others is forbidden (e.g. sex with children, with persons who are engaged or married to other persons, with persons unable to give informed consent, etc.) Zen Buddhism does not “make a distinction between heterosexual and homosexual” sex. It encourages sexual relationships that are “mutually loving and supportive.”

Robert Aitken, co-founder and teacher of the Honolulu Diamond Shangha testified before the Hawaiian Commission on Sexual Orientation and the Law on 1995-OCT-11. He commented that Zen Buddhist monks, nuns and devout lay persons accept 16 precepts, one of which is “I take up the way of not misusing sex.” 5 He interpreted this guideline as forbidding sex that is self-centered, exploitative, non-consensual, unwholesome or destructive, in either a heterosexual or homosexual context.

I would challenge Aiken’s comments.

Homosexual activity is, in fact, self-centered, unwholesome and destructive. Therefore Zen Buddhist monks, nuns and devout lay persons who agree to “take up the way of not misusing sex.” would have to reject homosexual behavior.

Firstly, it is a blatant misuse of sex. Since the purpose of sexual relations is procreation and homosexual relations close the door to procreation…it is an obvious misuse of sex.

Secondly, homosexual behavior is self-centered. It is narcissistic in that there cannot be a complete sharing of the natural bodily functions of the sex act. Basically it is self love.

It is unwholesome in that it is unnatural and abnormal behavior.

Lastly, it is destructive in that it is an undeniable fact that homosexual behavior spreads disease, reduces life expectancy and increases psychological problems.

I think Robert Aitken Should take a deeper look into Zen and find “Nirvana” rather than interpreting it in a way that promotes the gay lifestyle.
