Did anyone else watch the ABC movie. I was pleasantly suprised. I thought they did a good job of portraying the life of John Paul the Great. I especially liked the repreated prayers to Our Lady.
The incredible number of commercial interruptions is what stood out for me…and the fact that the one doctrinal/church issue (politics and communism aside) that they chose to present was his response to liberation theology…I wasn’t sure about the liberties they were taking with trying to put thoughts/words in his mouth. (i.e. Did he say he sinned with respect to Archbishop Romero? Or did the writers make that up too?) Mostly, I thought it was flattering…but was like putting his life on fast forward…
I agree that it was way to short. A life that great should have been the subject of a mini series at least 6 hours. But still, it did show his faith, and his and courage as much as could be done in the brief time frame. As for the commercials, I was recording it on TiVO and started watching it about 40 minutes in, so I could forward through them.
