Abortion Advocates Urge South Dakota Tourism Boycott Over Abortion Ban

Pierre, SD (LifeNews.com) – Because South Dakota lawmakers had the temerity to approve a ban on virtually all abortions in the state, abortion advocates are encouraging residents of other states to boycott taking a vacation or trip to one of the nation’s most visited states.
The Wisconsin-based Women’s Medical Fund, which collects funds to pay for low-income women to have abortions, is calling for the travel boycott.

HHHmmmmmm…I’ve wanted to take a nice family drive West lately. :yup:

No offense, but I was not aware of tourism being a primary source of income for South Dakota.

This may be surprising, but in Nebraska, tourism is the third leading source of revenue. I didn’t see a similar ranking for South Dakota but the state’s five year plan calls for a doubling of visitor spending so I guess the state takes tourism seriously.

Way to go Wisconsin WMF! Babies born to low-income women will obviously never amount to anything, so they should be aborted, right? :banghead: I have a hard time thinking of many things more ghoulish than that.

More people than you might think go out that way. You figure in addition to the obvious Mt. Rushmore, there are the Black Hills, which are beautiful. Custer State Park is equally beautiful and you can get up close and personal with prairie dogs and buffalo. Deadwood has wild west reenactments (Wild Bill Hikock shot daily!), casinos and is a regional gambling destination. Sturgis is the site of a huge annual motorcycle rally. A lot of people also travel to go hunting there.

I went there myself in the summer of 2003.

South Dakota doesn’t have an uber-attraction like a Disney World or Las Vegas, but it has a lot of small-to-medium events and attractions which add up to a sizable chunk of tourism revenue.
