Is an abortion allowed if the woman’s life is at stake? What about an etopic pregnancy?
Abortion is the murder of an innocent human life and is never permitted. Is an abortion allowed if the woman’s life is at stake? What about an etopic pregnancy?
Click here and scroll about halfway down. I hope it helps. Is an abortion allowed if the woman’s life is at stake? What about an etopic pregnancy?
In the case of an etopic pregnancy, the tube may be removed, which has the side affect of the child dying. However, the child may never be directly killed. Is an abortion allowed if the woman’s life is at stake? What about an etopic pregnancy?
Yep. Directly in this case meaning purposefully. In the case of an etopic pregnancy, the tube may be removed, which has the side affect of the child dying. However, the child may never be directly killed.
Read up on the principle of “double effect.” Basically it states that a good act is permissible even if it has a side effect that would otherwise be considered bad (I know this is a simplificaiton). So if the goal is to save a woman’s life (good) and, while do so, the baby is aborted (bad) then it may be morally permissible. You have to be really careful and clear when you use this principle because there is a lot of ways it can be misunderstood and misused.
