Abortion is not health care. It is the opposite of health care.
Contraceptives are not health care. They impair the normal functioning of the human body.
Contraceptives increase sexual activity, and the discrepancies between the “perfect use” and “typical use” rates of failure explain why such a large fraction of abortions occur among women USING contraceptives. It explains why emergency contraceptives like Plan B do absolutely nothing to reduce pregnancy rates – people have more sex.
That is why PP, Guttmacher Institute, and the Buffett Foundation have pushed so hard to require public funding of IUDs and other “long-acting reversible contraceptives” (LARCs), which don’t require any “proper use” on the part of women. They’re expensive, so PP and its allies have made it their #1 agenda to get public funding for LARCs.
PP and its allies like to call this “reproductive health care,” but really, it’s about making the world dependent on massive industrial production of commodity pharmaceuticals, plastics, and copper products. It’s about redefining what it means to be a woman, denying “nature” and replacing it with a cyborg, to use the term put forward by Donna Haraway.
Fundamentally, PP is trying to change what it means to be human. Requiring that we define ourselves according to our internalizing an addiction to industrial commodities.
This is the “liberation” PP offers to women, along with much of Second Wave Feminism. It’s all about addicting America to commodities. Just like the cultural hegemony of industry want them to. Want to be a rebel? Buy a Harley-Davidson with that name and finance it with a loan from Harley’s financial partners. Want to stick it to the “oppressive” Church rules so you can have consequence-free sex? Go to your doctor, financed with taxpayer dollars, and have him surgically implant a device that will make your uterus toxic (and if it’s Paragard, copper will begin to accumulate in your brain tissue). Or if it’s hormones, it’s not just the uterine lining tissues that are affected… brain regions involved in cognitive and emotional processing will be reduced and affect functional performance on cognitive tests.
Commodify your dissent, to quote Thomas Frank, and buy into the industrial redefinition of human life and culture.
Want to plan parenthood organically and locally? Use the symptothermal method or any of the other forms of MODERN natural family planning (NFP) that do not require an entire industrial supply chain to support your lifestyle choices.
