I respectfully disagree - in the case of abortion. Like many other Catholics I am struggling to understand. I think I understand intent. If the intent is to kill the baby it is a direct abortion and is immoral. What I don’t understand and what hasn’t been brought up is PDE. How does that tie in?Yes, I think you are right. They do not care. They are capable of understanding, but they are not willing to understand.
What about an ectopic pregnancy? It’s my understanding that removal of the tube containing the embryo is necessary in order to save the mother’s life. If the tube is not removed the mother will die. The baby will die. At the present time we don’t have the technology to save the baby if the tube is removed.
If the intent is to save the mother’s life, removing the tube is moral, right? Otherwise it would burst and the mother would die. The death of the baby within the tube is a tragic consequence of the removal of the tube and once technology progresses to the point where the baby can be saved, the baby will be saved.
At least that’s my understanding. The physicians don’t cut into the tube, remove the baby, and then sew up the tube. That would be a direct abortion.
A lot of people are struggling to understand this very complex issue. As faithful Catholics we want to follow the Magisterium’s teachings. We are confused. It’s not that we don’t want to know, it’s that nobody can explain it to us so that we understand.
Intent? PDE? I don’t understand and I’ve been struggling with this for years.
