Pro-life groups’ tactics have become less confrontational
Erie County women had 751 fewer abortions in 2003 than they did in 1997. That’s two fewer abortions per day. That’s the good news for those who want to see abortion numbers go down.
But the abortion rate still remains high here. Two years ago, the last year for which statistics are available, the ratio of abortions to pregnancies among Erie County women was 29.3 percent.
That means almost one-third of all pregnancies here ended in abortion, just as they did in the mid-1990s.
