Abortion for sake of mother's life

Another question, can you name for me one medical condition that a pregnant woman can have, now, today, with modern medicine, where a direct abortion would be the only way to save her life?

Yes, that’s just it, as many docs testified to during the PBA goings on, there is NO medical scenario that would require a direct abortion. There is no advantage, in a scenario where both lives are at stake, to killing the baby prior to birth rather than delivering the baby and providing medical care for it even when, the likelihood of survival is low.

My 17 yr old cousin is pregnant and in a very precarious health situation right now, hospitalized with HELLP syndrome. Her condition is under control now but that could change any minute and present a life or death situation. If it comes down to it the baby will be delivered early, (she’s 24 weeks almost right now) and taken care of by any and all means possible, hopefully saving baby and mother’s life.

There’s nothing to be gained from a medical perspective by killing the baby rather than delivering her. The answer is, care for both.

Last year in our crisis pregnancy center, we received a call from a young woman who desperately wanted to continue her pregnancy, but two doctors had counseled her to have an abortion due to a liver problem. One of them told her (this is 3rd hand) that if she continued the pregnancy she would certainly die. He wanted to schedule an abortion that day for her.
We gave her the name of a pro-life doctor in her area, who treated her, put her on bedrest, and she’s now the mother of a lovely baby.
Maybe doctors are too quick to look for an easy (for them!) solution.

It just shows you that some doctors are so pro-abortion that they would try to push you into it under any circumstance. In such a situation certainly demand for your spouse and parents to come and see you if you feel unable to deal with it yourself. Never say yes to an immediate abortion and might even be against the law.

I have a question to ask for those of you who believe that getting an abortion to save the life of the mother would be immoral. Why is it that you hold a fetus’ life as more important than the woman’s life?

We don’t, we hold both lives as equally important. If the mother dies as the result of medical complications, that is tragic. If the baby is murdered by abortion, that is a serious evil. An attempt should be made to save BOTH LIVES.

Abortion is always wrong because it is murder, and therefore it is never permissable.

Uterine Cancer?

The woman can delay treatment until she delivers as early as possible or may seak treatment (chemotherapy, etc.) that may stop the cancer. There is a chance the baby could die from that treatment, however, the baby might survive the treatment as well.

Should the cancer be the type where the utereus must be removed, the diseased organ can be removed. The death of the child may be an unfortunate result of that, but, the child cannot be killed in order to remove the organ.

The baby does not have to be killed to treat the mother.

This is addressed in the same moral theological documents as those that address ectopic pregnancy.

I am not a medical professional, let alone a doctor, so I don’t know the answer to this question. But, if the answer to this question is yes. Then, does it really matter if the baby is removed first because the baby is dead either way, the intent is to treat the mother, and the mother’s chances of survival would be increased by removing the child first?

Just so we’re clear. I am pro-life. I do think everything should be done to save both the mother and the child. I am just curious about particulars like this.

Baby is removed from the utereus if needed via c-section, baptized and lives the remainder of his life, be it 60 seconds or 100 years, not killed then chopped up then pulled out.

never say yes to an abortion period! why would any doctor recommend abortion right away, or at all? they take an oath to do no harm! and abortion clearly does harm!

It is unconscionable to ask anyone to make such a life or death decision immediately, continuing pregnancy during a period of discernment is not a substantial risk. If the doctor did that he was unwise.
