20 years ago while apart from the faith, I had not one, but two abortions. Alcoholism and addiction were part of my existance at the time, but having been raised Catholic and pro-life, I had no excuse. I have sought forgiveness through reconcilliation, and try to atone by being an active pro-life supporter today (through my actions, words, voting and donations). However, I feel I could do more as an experienced survivor of abortion… BUT - my mother would be devistated if she knew. Part of me feels like telling her would simply be cruel, and I would only be doing so to assuage my own guilt. Additionally, I fear it would ruin the relationship we have. (Which didn’t exist at the time) Should I tell her, in hopes that she will understand I am only doing so to try to make amends for my grave sins, and risk losing our relationship or would that be just making her suffer in order to ease my guilt?

kage_ar gave you excellent advice. Project Rachel is remarkable.

As a sidebar, I don’t see any point in telling your mother. You have confessed the sin to the Great Physician, and He has forgiven you. Your mom would only be hurt by this knowledge. The people at Project Rachel can help YOU learn to forgive YOURSELF.

Holding you very close in prayer. :console:

Curley… It took a great deal of courage, to tell your story. I agree with the previous two posters. Please contact “Project Rachel”. You might also want to look at the “Silent No More” site in my signature. God bless you.

It seems like the bigger question is that you are continuing to feel guilty for something that God has already forgiven.

Your supporting pro-life causes is a wonderful, wonderful thing. Clearly you are truly contrite and want to make amends. When you went to Confession, God forgave you. Now you just need to forgive yourself.

I agree that telling your mom won’t solve anything. This is about you, not her. Have you ever said the Divine Mercy Chaplet? This could be a great way for you to ask Jesus for the grace to forgive yourself. By meditating on His perfect Love and Mercy, you can ask Him to help you and open yourself to His grace. You can also offer the chaplet for all those who, like you did, needed His forgiveness for the sin of abortion. This would be a great way to extend your pro-life work. You can use your pain to reach out to others, which seems, from your post, like something you do well.

I will keep you in my prayers and thoughts. May God’s Mercy live in your heart!

I second the Divine Mercy Chaplet - I say it daily and it has made a huge difference in my life.

Also the other posters advice about Project Rachel and Silent No More is very wise. I tried the second for anger issues I had after finding out about my daughter’s 2 abortions - which happened while she knew my DH & I were trying to adopt. I felt she deliberately thwarted us in denying us those babies, but after thinking on it and talking with folks, realized that it was her thinking it was the only avenue she had at that time. It’s taken a lot of time, but now I forgive her. But it was painful, be ready to bare your soul and let God in.
