It would be a great help to me if you could fill out the following questionnaire, which will be used in a school report. Also, I’m aware the results will be biased. They’re supposed to be 🙂

Questionnaire: Influences on Opinion
  1. Of the following, which most influences your opinion on abortion? :
  • a. The Teachings of my church or other religious institution.
  • b. My personal experiences with abortion and/or human rights.
  • c. The platform of the political party with which I am affiliated.
  • d. An understanding of the history of abortion and the consequences of past stances on abortion.
  1. On a scale of one to five, rate the importance of religion in your life, one being the lowest and five being the highest:
  2. On a scale of one to five, rate the importance of politics in your life, one being the lowest and five being the highest:
  3. On a scale of one to five, rate the importance is the issue of abortion to you, one being the lowest and five being the highest:
  4. On a scale from one to five, rate how strongly you agree with the following statement: “From its conception, the child has the right to life. Direct abortion, that is, abortion willed as an end or as a means, is a “criminal” practice (*GS *27 § 3), gravely contrary to the moral law.”- Catechism of the Catholic Church
  5. On a scale from one to five, rate how strongly you agree with the following statement: “Anti-choice forces are chipping away at a woman’s right to choose which results in more unintended pregnancies and more abortions.”-NARALPro-Choice America
  6. On a scale from one to five, rate how strongly you agree with the following statement: “Abortion is a purely private matter and should not be subject to laws, abortion should be unlimited”
  7. On a scale from one to five, rate how strongly you agree with the following statement: “Abortion is a form of murder unless it is absolutely necessary to preserve the life of the mother. It should have severe limits.”

  2. 5
  3. 3
  4. 5
  5. 5
  6. 1
  7. 1
  8. 1 - If the Mothers life is at stake, things can be done about it. Not only abortions.

Thanks for asking!

Of the following, which most influences your opinion on abortion? :

a. The Teachings of my church or other religious institution – the Catholic Church because that is what God says.
  1. On a scale of one to five, rate the importance of religion in your life, one being the lowest and five being the highest:
5
  1. On a scale of one to five, rate the importance of politics in your life, one being the lowest and five being the highest:
**was 2 but now because I am very clear on being called to fighting for the right for people in their mother’s womb to be born… it’s a 5 **
  1. On a scale of one to five, rate the importance is the issue of abortion to you, one being the lowest and five being the highest:
5
  1. On a scale from one to five, rate how strongly you agree with the following statement: “From its conception, the child has the right to life. Direct abortion, that is, abortion willed as an end or as a means, is a “criminal” practice (GS 27 § 3), gravely contrary to the moral law.”- Catechism of the Catholic Church
5
  1. On a scale from one to five, rate how strongly you agree with the following statement: “Anti-choice forces are chipping away at a woman’s right to choose which results in more unintended pregnancies and more abortions.”-NARALPro-Choice America
If “anti-choice” is a euphemism for “pro-life”, I rate how strongly I agree with that statment as zero. In other words, I could NOT disagree with that statement any more than “zero”.
  1. On a scale from one to five, rate how strongly you agree with the following statement: “Abortion is a purely private matter and should not be subject to laws, abortion should be unlimited”
zero

It’s not private to the baby… nor is it private to his or her (the baby’s) father.

  1. On a scale from one to five, rate how strongly you agree with the following statement: “Abortion is a form of murder unless it is absolutely necessary to preserve the life of the mother. It should have severe limits.”
zero.

**It is NEVER necessary to save a woman’s life because she’s pregnant. Even in an ectopic pregnancy, the Holy Spirit (who is the advocate for the unborn and Who leads the Church) says that even if the baby must be removed from the woman’s Fallopian tubes to save the mother’s life, every effort is to be made equally to save the life of the baby who would otherwise die in the Fallopian tubes of his or her mother. **

Answer - a.
  1. On a scale of one to five, rate the importance of religion in your life, one being the lowest and five being the highest:
  2. On a scale of one to five, rate the importance of politics in your life, one being the lowest and five being the highest:
    • I would have put 1, but unfortunately, we must have some politics!
  3. On a scale of one to five, rate the importance is the issue of abortion to you, one being the lowest and five being the highest:
  4. On a scale from one to five, rate how strongly you agree with the following statement: “From its conception, the child has the right to life. 6. As usual, the pro-abortion people use false statements.
  7. On a scale from one to five, rate how strongly you agree with the following statement: “Abortion is a purely private matter and should not be subject to laws, abortion should be unlimited”
  8. There should be no abortions ever.
  9. On a scale from one to five, rate how strongly you agree with the following statement: “Abortion is a form of murder unless it is absolutely necessary to preserve the life of the mother. It should have severe limits.”
If this sentence had stopped after the word “murder” I could score it 5. There is never a reason to perform a direct abortion to preserve the life of the mother. In it’s present form I cannot agree with it.

  1. B. I am surprised that most chose A. I do not need to Church to tell me that Abortion is wrong, I do need the Church to make my moral compas though. I quess I would only go to the Churhc on issues that do not make sense or are fussy in the moral issue.

0 (…or 1, again)

4… The only reason I don’t say 5 here is probably just a technicality. If we’re talking about legal issues, then you must recognize that murder is the ILLEGAL killing of one person by another. Since the Supreme Court has effectively created a law protecting abortion (something it has no right to do) abortion has been legal in the US, so strictly on legal footing, it is not murder. If you’re speaking of natural law, or God’s laws, then clearly it is murder, and my answer would be “5”.

This is an extremely poorly worded question designed to manipulate the responses. However, taking the question to mean “limiting the ability of women to have abortions results in more unintended pregnancies and more abortions”, the answer is 1

  1. On a scale from one to five, rate how strongly you agree with the following statement: “Abortion is a form of murder unless it is absolutely necessary to preserve the life of the mother. It should have severe limits.”This is another manipulative question. If you believe abortion is a form of murder no matter the circumstance, then 1 should be the appropriate answer. However answering 1 implies (by the wording) that the respondent doesn’t see it as murder if the life of the mother is at stake (or that one doesn’t see it as a form of murder at all)…not to mention it implies disagreement that it should be limited. I simply do not know how to answer this question appropriately without re-wording it.

  1. a or d… (a) is the foundation of who I am… but, (d) makes it so even if not for (a) I would still be prolife… it is a given in other words… I have to say (d)

  1. a. The Teachings of my church or other religious institution. b. and c. are subjective, d. is already known and factored by a.
  2. Five.
  3. Politics purely, or civics? In civics, I use my politics rather than just theorize. For civics, I’d say three; pure politics would be one.
  4. Five. It’s the basic human rights issue today.
  5. Five. Cannot agree more.
  6. One–and I’d prefer zero.
  7. One. Could you imagine hearing that statement about slavery, theft, rape or other murders?
  8. One. There is never a justification for abortion. There is no “middle ground”; there is no “Ok except in cases of rape or incest”, there is no “to save the life of the mother” which would involve directly killing the child. In cases of ectopic pregnancy, for example, removing the tube (where the child could not survive or has already died) is a legitimate procedure, because the mother would indeed die of acute septicemia or other toxic embolic problem otherwise. The death of the child is the effect, not the cause, of the procedure in this case.
And to even bring in the idea of limits cuts the ground right out from under you. Something is either wrong, or right. Making it into a “partial” wrong/ right, or a “situational” wrong/ right, would be a fallacy.

1- if i have to choose one of your answers it would be “A”, but for me the more specific reason is that through my scientific and medical training as a physician I have come to accept through both logical and scientific means that human life starts at conception. I believe you can prove abortion to be murder without even involving religion.
