Just a brief heads up/ update on this

Yesterday the govt cleared the way for the referendum re “repealing the 8th” here in Ireland

If you look at boards.ie, After Hours, you will see two long threads. And another on the Christianity forum.

Beseeching you to read, and to pray for this beleagured country

It has been a shocking time for me and the opposition has managed to get me thread banned for my beliefs and done the same to others opposing the repeal . With much abuse. It is lacerating and deeply disturbing.
I had no idea that the main reason for abortion here was just :" I do not want to be pregnant".
And of course, an unborn baby is not a human being and even were that so, they are more important than an 8 week foetus

Please.pray for this matter. One of the accusations by the pro-repeal for is that the US is funding pro-life groups.

Not online much these days and Holy Week beckons… Blessings and thanks to all

Thank you so much for your heads up Rose, and I’m so sorry for what your country is going through 😦
Praying with renewed determination.God bless you.

I am English but I have always been a massive Hibernophile. I never would have imagined Ireland, which had always stood out as one of the holiest nations, if not the holiest nation in the world, would ever seriously consider legalising the slaughter of its littlest citizens. Until this ghastly referendum is over, I will offer up my daily Rosary that Ireland will never go down the route that my country did in 1967 when the satanic Abortion Act was passed. ☘️ :ireland: ♥️ 👶 ☘️

My sincere thanks. It is breaking my old heart. … thank you

Instead of the line “They are hanging me and women for the wearing of the Green” its “They are killing unborn babies for the wearing of the Green”. The Irish rightly say they were killed for being Irish. Now they are killing babies for being Irish. Shameful.

Our leader, Leo Varadkar, avers that as we already have abortion in Ireland we must make it safe. Last year there were over 5,000 Irish women having abortions. 2/3 “went to England” and the remaining third bought abortion pills online.

There is no moral compass in any of this. And of course the argument that a foetus is not a baby. I and others have been hounded off the thread.

We “only” have Prayer now.

Yes indeed. Sadly the abuse has had long lasting effects on this generation , Reading a thread on the Pope’s visit. They deliberately are rushing the referendum through before August lest his visit change hearts on abortion. But it is never going to be an easy visit, not like when John Paul was here.

Householders are to receive pro-life leaflets this week as the abortion referendum campaign heats up.

The leaflet blitz comes after a Sunday newspaper poll showed a ten-point slip in the Yes side’s lead on the question of repeal of the 1983 constitutional amendment, which recognises the equal right to life of the mother and the unborn.

The Pro Life Campaign said a Red C poll on abortion in the Sunday Business Post, which shows a loss of momentum for repeal, ‘reflects very much what pro-life canvassers are picking up on the ground’.

The figures show a ten-point swing away from repeal since January. There is now 56% of the public in favour of repeal, with 26% opposed, and 16% don’t knows, with 2% declining to answer the question.

On the issue of support for abortion up to 12 weeks, the poll found 52% in favour, 33% opposed, 13% saying they don’t know and 2% declining to state a position.

Leo Varadkar has vowed to do television interviews advocating a Yes vote in May’s expected referendum, although he will not take part in head-to-head debates.

Thanks too. I got banned from one boards.ie thread for my pro-life views as did many others. Still have one on the Christianity threads. Getting attacked there for pro-life views but then these are the militants. There are several main reasons they demand a yes vote. One is medical grounds. Another is ffa ideas a they want all disability screened out by abortion. One is simply “unwanted pregnancies” The main reasoning i that an unborn baby is not a human being. And there is no heartbeat at 12 weeks. They call it a “pacemaker cell.” A friend here told me re a dr who was performing in vitro surgery on a 12 week unborn baby. When he inserted his hand, the little one grabbed his finger and held on to it.Would not let go

A pro life poster got banned for this…

" Let me just say this, I’m proudly pro life and have always said so. I am not backwards or a woman hater, I’d consider myself rather progressive and I have a woman I love , my girlfriend, I just feel all human life, be it unborn born black white Africian American A Trump whatever, it equal and should be treated as so and all has an equal right to life. In my opinion nobody has the right to end the life of another, to murder them, that including the unborn, I value life more than anything else, we all only get one chance ( I as a Catholic believe we will resurrect into heaven however that’s irrelevant and I’d appreciate my beliefs are respected) That is why I am opposed to abortion, I believe nobody has the authority to take the life of another. I have
recalled my personal story about abortion here before, my life was almost stolen from me, my mother now in shock and ashamed of that. I believe no matter how tough things get it doesn’t compare with stealing the life of another so for that reason I oppose any loosening of our abortion laws"

Ireland Health Minister;
About the proposed legislation in the event of a Yes vote. No bombshells or surprises, but it’s good to get more detail. Some of his comments are below:

On the 12 weeks, without specific indication
“a medical practitioner would have to certify that he/she is of the reasonable opinion, formed in good faith, that the pregnancy concerned has not exceeded 12 weeks. A period of 72 hours would have to elapse between certification and the termination being carried out.”

Risk to life and health
“Two medical practitioners would have to certify that in their reasonable opinion (a) there is a risk to the life or of serious harm to the health of the pregnant woman, (b) the foetus has not reached viability and (c) the termination of pregnancy is appropriate to avert the risk.”

“This requirement to certify that the foetus has not reached viability is an effective ban on later term abortions. Such a ban does not exist in other countries, like the UK.”

As an aside, I think this is the first time it’s been said that the risk to health must be of one of “serious harm”.

FFA
"Should a referendum on Article 40.3.3 be passed, the Government would propose to permit termination of pregnancy on the grounds of a condition which is likely to lead to death before or shortly after birth.

In these cases, two appropriate medical practitioners, as opposed to just one as was proposed in the Joint Oireachtas Committee report, would be involved in the assessment, recognising that these complex medical cases are currently managed by multidisciplinary teams."

It is breaking my heart with disbelief that so-called intelligent people can be ritualising the massacre of innocents.Arranging why and when this death sentence is to be carried out.

Campaign leader Niamh Ui Bhriain urged people to turn out and vote to reject abortion and the “untrustworthy political class”.

She said: "The polls are turning in our favour and as the reality of the repeal slogan becomes more and more evident to voters, more and more voters are turning against this proposal.

“This is a rising of the people against the elites, and on May 25th it’s time to join a rebellion, and to reject both abortion on demand and the untrustworthy political class that wants to repeal the right to life of children before birth.”

Health Minister Simon Harris is advocating a “yes” vote.

He said: "My message to the people of Ireland is: ‘This is your chance’.

“If you can no longer accept that every year thousands of women, often in the privacy of their bedroom or their home, often without any medical supervision, are taking abortion pills - this is your chance to right that wrong.”

Spokesperson Niamh Uí Bhriain says most Irish people don’t support the Government’s proposals for abortion legislation.

She said: “The Government isn’t asking us to look at hard cases, it is asking us to legalise abortion on demand in this country and we are asking people to reject that proposal.”

Both sides are talking like this now. Still so many weeks to go , The boards ie threads are nasty but 2 of the main ones have been banned, They claim eg that an unborn feels no pain. And they have the right to get an abortion if they do not “want” a pregnancy.Simply that and no respect for the sacredness of life.
