The relationship you imply is, indeed, a form of symbiosis. However, it cannot qualify as parasitism, because there is no detrimental effect to the host organism (the mother). It is more properly referred to as “obligate commensalism.”

Please consult a 5th grade science book for more information.

One of the main justifications for slavery was that Africans weren’t truly human. Many of the offensive words to describe them were meant to dehumanize them. Just because idiot people 150 years ago didn’t believe that African Americans deserved the same freedoms as others doesn’t change the fact that of course that because of their humanness, blacks had these rights. Just because some didn’t accept this as true doesn’t change the truth. We are of course repulsed by their arguements, but it doesn’t change the fact that they were once made.

I don’t think it’s the “race card” to point out the similarities in the arguements for slavery versus the arguement for abortion. I am offended by both. We use words to dehumanize the baby (fetus, product of conception, parasite). I can hope that just as people realized that African Americans are truly human, we can reach the same conclusion with unborn babies.

The viability argument is an old argument. A one year old baby would not live for 48 hours on its own either. Should we then be able to kill one year old babies also??
