Is there a site that lists the number of persons executed daily/weekly or in 2004? Continuously in discussions people will quote how abortion is just ‘one issue’ and the death penality is a serious life issue too, which is the only issue Kerry supports banning. I am attempting to be able to quote the number of executions versus the 4000 abortions daily in the US.

Secondly, does anyone have even a clue how many abortions may be been performed ‘worldly’ vs the 47M number for the US?

The Death penalty is not declared by the Church to be gravely evil, as abortion is. It is a common misconception and distortion that the death penalty and abortion are equivalent issues. A close reading of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, one recognizes, that there is no outright prohibition against it. It is recognized as a sometime (or in the terms of the CCC, incredibly rare) necessity for the security of the state. The Scriptures lend more support to at least the possibility of recourse to the Death Penalty for the good of the state (protecting others). Abortion is an altogether different issue. ABORTION IS ALWAYS EVIL and UNNECCESARY! The Church recognizes that sometimes it might be necessary for the state to have recourse to the death penalty in enforcing justice and in the protection of the state.

As for numbers, as I reread your post, you don’t seem to be debating the issue, just wanting a comparison for numbers, I don’t know. My bet would be somewhere between 100-200 people are executed each year, but I am guessing (in the US). As for world abortion numbers, probably higher, as China has forced abortions that probably make our daily numbers look insignificant (one child policy). Furthermore, Europe’s negative birthrate must not only be contraceptive related, but also abortificant related, so it would seem they have a high rate, though the total population of Europe is less than the US, so again, probably under our daily rate, though China definitely exceeds it. I would think. Priests For Life might be a good source.
