In an older Catholic Bible in Mt. 5-32 has the phrase “save the account of immorility” and in the New American Bible the same verse has the phrase “unless th marriage is unlawful”. Does this have a different meaning? If you go way back to 1600’s The Douay-Rheims Verson says " except in the case of fornication". I think the the Latin Vulgate (around 400 AD) uses the word “fornication”. Someone else give there opinion.
Thanks

Sorry I don’t have the answer. I share your question.

I’ve never really understood any way that Catholic teaching incorporates this into marriage rules, since they do not allow divorce at all. It seems the Church is exercising her option to be more strict than the scripture would seem to indicate.
