There’s already another pronunciation thread going on, but I would like to know.
How do you pronounce Lefebvre, as in the bishop?

The only time I have ever heard his name pronounced was by an American SSPX priest, who said it like “Leh-fev”. I didn’t hear any b or r sounds in there, which I thought was interesting.

French is a meesed up language. Anyone else know?
Sorry, but French is certainly not any more “messed up” than any other language.

I’m not lexicographer and am a bit unsure of the phonetic equivalents, but the “re” at the end are pronounced, albeit softly. The accent is on the second syllable. Le-FEH-V-(re) would be the best I can transcribe.

I agree. French ain’t messed up, just different. Their pronounciation rules are more consistent than ours 😃

I’ve always said it, and heard similar words in French, pronounced like ‘Le-FEV-(aspirated, rolled r)reh’. The ‘fevre’ sort of trails away, 'FEHvreh) and the ‘eh’ at the end is almost silent.

I’m not a native speaker of French, or excellent in French grammar, but I agree with muffinmojo

Malphano, muffinmojo and Cider seem to have described it.

I think that some day the late Archbishop (memory eternal!) will be recognized as the great saint he is.
