Ok, so when you’re not eating meat…how far are you supposed to take that?

Because this friday, my family ended up eating out. And my mother spent about 5 minutes interrogating the poor waitress about whether the fish was fried with other meats, etc. And then after the food arrived, she kept telling me that I shouldn’t eat the rice pilaf because maybe it had beef bullion or something in it.

So…er…how far are we supposed to take this “no meat” thing?

We are only required to abstain from “solid” meat and poultry. Broth without meat solids is OK.

In the days of old, all animal and animal byproducts were included: Milk, butter, cheese, broth, etc. (or so I’ve been told). However, today must observe staying away from solid meats and things like broth, butter, milk, etc. are okay. God bless.
