This is scary…people getting into fights over abstinence vs. condom use in teaching childern sex ed…

Here is why i have to rant!

GLENVIEW, Ill., Nov. 3 /U.S. Newswire/ – In the midst of a national Abstinence Education Evaluation Conference being sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services this week, abstinence educators are calling for an investigation of the questionable content and ethical concerns with comprehensive sex education programs being supported with government money. Rather than allowing abstinence educators to follow the conference agenda, an organization called Housing Works sabotaged this morning’s session with a 10-minute demonstration attacking abstinence education and Claude Allen, the deputy secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, to the point that security needed to be called to restore order. In addition, it has been revealed that individuals representing the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS) and other nationally known abstinence education opponents, are present at the meeting.

SIECUS and the CDC have a record of recommending curricula with extremely graphic content such as the use of grocery items like grape jelly being used as lubricants (Becoming a Responsible Teen), condom relay races, condom practice and fantasizing during classroom time, a homework assignment to go shopping for condoms, and how-to instructions for oral sex (Becoming a Responsible Teen, Be Proud! Be Responsible!, Get Real About AIDS). Focus on Kids, a curriculum for 9-15-year-olds, assigns teens to create a list of ways to be close to a person without having intercourse, including, “body massage, bathing together, masturbation, sensuous feeding, fantasizing, watching erotic movies, reading erotic books and magazines.”

“The content of these programs and exposing children as young as age nine to studies on sexual practices calls into question who authorized and recommended these programs in the first place,” stated Libby Gray Macke, director of Project Reality. “Once again, SIECUS and other comprehensive sex ed advocates prefer to attack successful programs rather than have the content of their own recommended programs exposed. We hope that the GAO will investigate these programs to ensure that children are not exposed to these dangerous programs.”

My rant…If this is what they think is safe to teach childern then i am truly frightened about how the next generation is going to turn out…Why should these programs be able to ripe the innoncence of sex and all of it’s beauty from a child and not teach them all the responsibility and maturity that comes with sex and instead break it down like it’s something everyone should do and teach you tons more then the basic and call it education?? Grape jelly??Condoms??? 9 year olds???Public Education??? My tax money??? UGH!!!

GOD BLESS!!!

Beckers,

I share your concerns!

I attended a workshop a few months ago on how to teach complete abstinence to teens. The workshop was presented by the Florida Health Department.

It has been learned that sex education that talks about abstinence being best, but that promotes birth control to teens, “just in case they need it sometime”, just doesn’t work. That is giving them a mixed message.

The workshop in abstinence was excellent! Never should we tell our young people that it is okay not to be chaste. It taught about the wrongness of pornography, allowing “liberties” on dates, and how wise it is to not allow thoughts to enter our minds that would lead to unchaste acts.

I attended because I am a volunteer at a local crisis pregnancy center, and wanted to improve my skills on how to talk to young girls. There were youth ministers, pastors from many Christian denominations, and teachers from CCD present. Also, some people from public schools who would learn about and then be willing to present this to students at public schools.

Those who gave the program to educators, gave another program the following day to parents and teens together. A good looking gentleman of thirty years of age gave the dynamic program, sharing about his life of chastity till marriage a few months ago.
That is quite a role model for young people!

He gave many statistics to show that the wrong kind of sex education does not help at all. That is why they were promoting the abstinence education. I hope it catches on everywhere!

Peace,

Dorothy
