Hello,

I am new Catholic. I came into the Church a few months ago. I try to stay connected to what is happening around the Catholic world by subscribing to various facebook feeds that post articles etc. I ran across this today.

Being new to the Church I really don’t know how discipline is dispensed from the Vatican. It occurs to me that this is nearly the worst liturgical abuse possible. I am not trying to question the leadership of the Church, but when will something be done about this? How can His Holiness not immediately confront this type of thing?

It can sometimes be difficult to understand why Church authorities appear to not respond the way we may expect them to. We can hope it is because they are trying to extend compassion and bring someone closer to Christ by not cutting them completely off from the Church. We also are not always privy to what they have tried in private to do to keep people in closer line with the Church. As the Pope and bishops may have suffered insult without lashing out, as our Lord did when He suffered for us and our sinful nature.

While we can speak up and write to the bishops and Holy See, I think more importantly we need to pray that the Pope, and all the bishops have the strength to uphold the Faith, and bring those who stray back to the Church by the best means availible, even if we can’t understand the logic of how they are doing it.

Lastly, a newspaper, television, magazine or internet article almost always has a bias, and rarely has the full “inside” story.

Pray pray pray. And hope for compassion and understanding if and when we stray.
 
I think this site may be misinterpreting things. Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco has previously expressed his opposition to gay marriage, something which lead to him receiving death threats.

I know that the policy of the Church is to deny politicians who support abortion communion, but the person in question is not a politician (at the moment). I do not know about the Church’s policies about denying communion to non-politicians, but I believe it may be that the priest is not supposed to make the judgment about whether or not a person is in a state of mortal sin and thereby unable to receive the host.
 
If one has a predisposition to look for imperfections, they can be found constantly. In fact there may be so many that one could get lost in them. And that wouldn’t be the point of Catholicism would it? To be lost in something?
