Why do some Priests work as Professors, like how did they get this assignment, what goes into it etc
Right, but in the secular world you can just apply, I mean does the Priest have to apply to his Bishop? Does the Bishop appoint them to thri position or the individual university etcTheir situation is probably not much different from other academics who are not clergy. They get their positions because they are knowledgeable in their area of expertise, are probably well published, are professionally respected by their peers, are good at teaching, etc.
For some priests it is a matter of obedience to their bishop or superior. Many priests are asked by the bishop or superior to go on for further studies beyond the masters level so that they can teach in the diocesan seminary or universities run by particular orders. Most Jesuit priests I know have PhDs or STDs and spend time teaching.Their situation is probably not much different from other academics who are not clergy. they were qualified by their other academic pursuits to teach and do research in their particular field, history, philosophy, science whatever. Why do some Priests work as Professors, like how did they get this assignment, what goes into it etc
I had courses by a nun and a Priest in University. The Priest was a Basilian Father (an order known for teachers). He was brilliant and very dedicated to his job (in short he loved it). He always encouraged us to come and see him (make use of office hours) as we were “paying his salary”. Only later did I realize that he gave that salary to the order. Why do some Priests work as Professors, like how did they get this assignment, what goes into it etc
