Yes, what he did was remarkable and when I went on a tour of the concentration camp, they told his story and there was a wreath of flowers in his cell.

I also went to Auschwitz this summer and saw the cell. I didn’t see flowers, but, it had a large candle placed there by Pope St. John Paul II.

Most Jews would use the term “Righteous Gentile” to refer to Maximillian Kolbe since there are no “saints” in Judaism. I would prefer to call him a SAINT. How many of us would have done the same in those terrible circumstances?
 
We are going to Mass tomorrow to honor this wonderful saint. My son took St. Kolbe as his confirmation saint. We did a lot of research on him in prep for his Confirmation.

Amazing man!

And the commandant of Auschwitz converted to Catholicism before he was killed for his war crimes.
