This writer, who profoundly criticizes TV, says how he now lives without it.

Heh. I quit using my TV well over a decade ago. Never missed it.
Of course I’m online so there’s that. But my computer use is a good deal more active and participatory than my TV viewing ever was, so there’s that.

Yep. I stopped watching TV in September of 1999. Have never missed it.
I stumbled upon an interview with Mayim Bialik online a few years ago that referenced Big Big Theory so I looked it up, and loved them, so I do own the DVD set of that show. I’ve also seen some of The Office thanks to my son who made me promise I would watch the first 5 episodes… and I liked it too. But that’s it. I’ve never seen most of the TV series people talk about… for the past 20 years. LOL. When I walk by the tv in the family room and my husband has it on, I realized I haven’t missed ANYTHING by not watching. 🙂

TV just doesn’t exist in my world… it’s kind of a non-issue. LOL.

I love tv. And I think those who go without are depriving themselves and their family of a medium that connects society. From sports to news to stories. It is valuable if used appropriately.

I live without it fine, I just don’t turn it on. It’s been on 4 times this month, twice on New Years Day for the Urbi et Orbi blessing and the Mummers performance broadcast, once last week while I was cleaning cat messes in the kitchen and put on the impeachment shenanigans for an hour, and once this week when I put on the impeachment shenanigans for an hour with the sound off while I was on a concall. And honestly that’s about 3 more times than I usually turn it on per month.

I don’t have anything against those who leave it on all the time as my husband, his entire family, and me before the Internet was invented all did that. I just don’t want to hear descriptions and discussions of everything people watch. I honestly don’t care.

I do miss the days when there was reasonably decent 24 hour news that actually covered the world news and not an endless stream of political pundit opinion.

I watch a lot of stuff on PBS. I don’t watch much of anything else. Sometimes I’ll watch “Afterwords” on C-Span. Like the author in that article said, TV is pretty terrible, there really isn’t anything edifying on.

I quit watching television about 32 years ago and have not owned one for several decades. I have plenty of things to occupy my time; when I quit, I realized I was using it simply as an escape from matters at hand.

And I truly don’t miss it. I will acknowledge there are good programs; but they don’t outweigh my lack of desire to have one.

A friend of mine once commented on her opinion of TV is the energy only goes one way! 😂

I used to watch quite a bit when I was home with babies…I craved another adult in the room! Now, I might watch an hour every few days…except when there is a good series on Netflix. Then I power watch the series and turn it back off.

I think, like everything else in life, one needs to balance things. Nothing wrong with never watching it but nothing wrong with watching favorite shows. We just need to be able to turn it off at times, too!

I prefer to read but at night I’m usually too tired to read for any length of time. I used to fill that time listening to music, but I’m sick of most music and only listen to it occasionally now. So some nights it’s listening to the traffic going by and train whistles, while other nights it’s watching TV. Mostly news/commentary or EWTN. It seems there are more negative comments than positive here about EWTN so I’m not sure how popular it is with people here. Other than that the only TV I watch is a few hours of football or golf on some weekends. I’m sick of movies and all the old TV show reruns and have little use for current shows.

I don’t watch TV all that much anymore. The one big exception, though, is sports.

I stopped watching TV many years ago and do not miss it. Many at work harp on about some series they are watching, ask my opinion and when I say I don’t watch TV they look at me like I am from another planet. 🤣 🤣 🤣

I’d like to quit watching so much TV. It’s gotten to be a problem with me.
