Do not know if it is really true, but this implies that, if you want to work, commit murder:

**Hollywood, CA (LifeNews.com) – **Another actress has filed a lawsuit against a television network saying she is the victim of pregnancy discrimination. This time, former “General Hospital” star Kari Wuhrer has sued ABC and ABC Productions alleging the media outlet killed off her character and dismissed her from the program because she got pregnant.

Actress Hunter Tylo, who has gone on to be a spokeswoman for pro-life causes, filed a similar lawsuit in 1997.

Good for her. I do believe that it is true, because it’s not the first time it has happened. As mentioned in the article, Hunter Tylo, an actress from the soap opera, “The Bold and the Beautiful” was hired for “Melrose Place”, then found out she was pregnant. She was fired, because she refused to get an abortion.

She hired attorney Gloria Allred, sued Aaron Spelling, and won. By the time she was in court, she had already had the baby she was pregnant with at the time of her firing, and was a little over 8 months pregnant for another baby. The whole premise of the defendant(Aaron Spelling) was that actresses on his show were supposed to be sexy. However, provisions were made for Heather Locklear on the same show, who also became pregnant. Hunter was on the stand in a very sexy outfit and her attorney pulled a surprise move(to the defendants, that is) She asked Hunter how many children she had, to which Hunter replied “Three and a half” Gloria said “Three and a half?”, as if she had no idea what Hunter was talking about. Hunter then replied “I am eight and a half months pregnant with my fourth child”, and then stood up. No one could tell she was pregnant, even though she wore form fitting, sexy clothes. She won her case.

OK, I take exception to the implication that a woman deserves justice if she can pull off “sexy” while pregnant.

And if she can’t, does that support the defendants argument? I think using this to make a legal point is risky.

But that was the defendant’s case; woman on his show had to be sexy.

Two ways to attack it;
  1. No they don’t have to be sexy.
  2. But yes, they are sexy even though they are pregnant.
they just happen to choose 2, but could probably have won with #1 as well… though it might of been a little harder.

I believe that in Hunter Tylo’s case, the fact that provisions were made for Heather Locklear, who also became pregnant, was a deciding factor in helping her win her case.

NO woman should have to decide between her job and her child because she is threatened with being fired!

You mean:

No one should be forced to commit murder as an employment criteria.

???

I agree…

Half a baby? She’s eight months pregnant, not showing and counts her baby as 1/2 of a child. I don’t think that’s a very good prescient.

I think it was planned that way. My guess is that they were trying to be as dramatic as possible and instead of saying I have 4, one of which I am currently pregnant with, they decided to go for the more dramatic route. That is only a guess, based on what I read in her book.

Maybe she is just a bad actress and her character was not vital to the show. Characters get killed/written off all the time.

They could have done the same thing to her had she gotten sick, or fat, old… Sadly, that’s Hollywood.

Good soap actresses are kept around despite changes. Sounds to me that they just didn’t think she was good enough to work her pregnancy into the story line, and they didn’t want to work around it.

I’m a big fan of Kirstie Ally. Look what they did to her. She survived without a law suit.

Maybe if more actresses and other “famous women” would this it can help other women. When women “in the spotlight” such as Hunter Tylo and Kari Wuher, and others sue bosses over these discrimations, they are actually helping Mrs. Jane Q. Public.:yup:

This is not the case with the actress from GH. (I watch the show) Actually, she was VERY popular with fans of the show and very often was voted as a favorite actress on the show. She had a lot of “chemistry” with her co-star. I couldn’t understand why they let her go at first (until I read about the real reason) because they had such a great story line going with her character. And she really was a great actress.

I really think they made a big mistake (storywise) by firing her. They could have hid her pregnancy just as they have done with several other actresses on the show.
