it’s probably a silly question, but i thought i’d double-check. does this verse prohibit any consumption of blood, or just the ritual drinking of it like in satanism or paganism? i generally prefer my meat well-done anyway, 'cause i think blood is gross and unhealthy, but when i see other catholics/christians ordering medium rare or rare i can’t help but wonder. i also tend to wonder when my own meat is accidentally undercooked.

It was a short-term first century discipline which has been dispensed with. The Church no longer has any such discipline.

Put the entire Council of Jerusalem into context and it should answer your question.

That’s not blood in your rare steak. It’s riboflavin, as I recall.

Could you elaborate on this? Was watching man vs wild and the guy drank animal blood to survive and it got me wondering if that guy would be committing a sin, or if anyone would be committing a sin if they were forced to drink blood to survive.

There’s no sin in that.

Raw steak has very little blood in it. Think of it like sushi…

That verse is one that Jehovah Witnesses use in refusing blood transfusions.

I’m not qualified to interpret scriptures but I do know that Kosher laws required that no visible blood be on meat for eating. This sounds more like he is discussing avoiding Pagan practices, however?

Respectfully opinion only and for me I am ignorant on so I set out in search and looked up asking…

I need to question and examine what is meant by… the short term…first century on this topic leaving me 🤔🤔
Having learned myself that when I read Bible verses, when it states anywhere like it does in>>> Acts 15:20…As it is written…tells us they are… quoting from OT or else where, is this correct? etc.
.Acts 15:15–21 …should tell you in the foot notes where in OT, the Apostles, James, St Paul other Elders within the Jerusalem Council are quoting from, right?

All present are seeking out answers to solve the issues on what to do about the gentles seeking to enter in the fold of the faith and on the matter of Circumcision, are they not?

All present at that meeting go…searching within His Spoken Word on the matter of blood within Scriptures, right? Thus they state…As it is written…their quoting from the Prophets in finding the answers and how to solve the issues of great concern right? What does God say or what does his Prophets tell us, right?

NT I found heavily quotes from OT, does it not? 🤔

…Isaiah has been heavily quoted from the most within the NT has he not?

Jesus heavily quotes from OT throughout his teaching, preaching and continually refers back to the Prophets, OT does he not?

Why maybe also the Apostles, Peter, James, St Paul, other Elders after searching within the Spoken Word of God. OT…all agree on the 4 Laws giving out in …Act 15:15:21?

Titled in the Bible as… The Covenant with Noah…an everlasting Covenant God tells us in ( Genesis 9:9-17)…God’s instructions are given on the matter of blood, is it not within Noah covenant? 🤔
Genesis 9:9-17

Just listing a few
Genesis 9:4 -7 Only you shall not…
Leviticus 17:11
Hebrew 9:11-14
Ezekiel 16:6
1 John 5:6, 1:7
Isaiah was known as the Greatest of The Prophets, speaks heavily on blood seems to be important to God maybe? Written…All Life is sacred in the blood…🤔

Jesus was born, raised, by Hebrew Israelite parents, lived in obedience to the Torah ( The Laws of Moses) which Jesus within his own teaching… mentions Moses Torah (Laws) in…
…Matthew Chapter 23 Jesus gives instructions to his listening audience does he not about the Laws of Moses? Jesus observed also the yearly Feasts days, right? 🤔

Jesus does he not quote heavily from OT, along with St Paul and other Apostles, within the Gospels stating within them …As it is written…did they not? 🤔

Are there not many biblical verses, within our Heavenly Father’s Spoken Word, where he gives instructions on the matter of …Blood… found throughout the whole bible even to the last pages of NT, would this be correct?

Peace 🙂

Animals slaughtered for meat in the US are bled before they are butchered.

The red juice from a rare steak is not blood, but, a protein.

Don’t overcook a good steak!!!

The red coloring of rare meat and the fluid that comes out of it is not blood, but rather myoglobin. Myoglobin is a molecule similar to hemoglobin, which stores oxygen in muscle cells so that the muscle has extra oxygen available during strenuous exercise.

@amoiesu
but i thought i’d double-check. does this verse prohibit any consumption of blood,
Yes it is ,The Catholic Church prohibit us from eating blood and meat with blood ,it has not been changed till this day ,the word of God is quite clear on this in Acts 15:28, so we always wash the meat under running water will do ,or was it in a bowl once or twice will do ,you dont have to wash it like a fanatic

Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood; and I have given it to you for making atonement for your lives on the altar; for, as life, it is the blood that makes atonement.

Thought all foods are permissible as in Acts 10:15 The voice said to him again, a second time, “What God has made clean, you must not call profane.” 16 This happened three times, and the thing was suddenly taken up to heaven.

The Holy Spirit and the Apostles decided These essentials Church prohibit us from eating blood and meat with blood ,it has not been changed till this day

Acts 15:28 For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to impose on you no further burden than these essentials:29 that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols and from blood and from what is strangled and from fornication. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell.”

The prohibition to avoid the consumption of blood, as found in Acts 15:28,29, is not altered, adjusted, or explained in other books of the New Testament. Thus, it seems most reasonable to conclude that the prohibition remains binding today.

This is false. There is no canon or catechism that prohibits a Catholic Christian from eating blood, and it has been done in lands throughout the world for near two millenia without the condemnation of the Church.

The original discipline helped prevent the scandalizing of mixed Jewish Christian and Gentile Christian communities in the early decades, but it has not continued. That was it.

Respectfully opinion only searching the Scriptures His Spoken Word…noting this is repeated 2x the 4 Laws given…(on the blood law?)… in Acts Chapter 15 is it not?

Chapter 15 of Acts begins with Paul’s and Barnabas concerns about gentles having to be circumcised to enter in, right? Why they go down to Jerusalem for instructions maybe?

Chapter 15: 4 When they came to Jerusalem they were welcome by the church the Apostles and the Elders…keep reading following verses…

Agreement by all…was Gentles do not have to be circumcised, here after much debate on this… Peter stands up…referring back to the early days within God Spoken Word to all present?

Next last to speak is James?
.
Acts 15: 13-17 After they finished speaking, James replied…My Brothers, listen to me…

Acts 15:15 This agrees with the words of the prophets, as it is written ( seeking out first what does God’s instruction tell us on this matter… quoting from OT? Circumcision solution was given?

Next issue being solved laws to the gentles to live by, follow to remain is given?

James still speaking is he? First time 4 Laws given?..

Acts 15:19-23 Therefore I have reached the decision that we should not trouble those Gentiles who are turning to God, but we should write to them to abstain only things polluted by idols and from fornication and from whatever has been strangled and from blood…

Acts 15:22-28…Council Letter to Gentile believers…
And James is sending out by 2 Names…where?
To go out to spread the Spoken Word on what all fully agreed on, right?

Repeated again 4 Laws …in same Chapter 15:28

Acts 15:28-34 …For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to impose on you no further burden than theses essentials. that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols and from blood and from what is strangled and from fornication. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell. So they were sent of and went down to Antioch. When they gathered the congregation together, they delivered the letter. When its members read it, they rejoiced at the exhortation. Judas and Silas, who were themselves prophets, said much to encourage and strengthen the believers. After they had been there for some time, they were sent off in peace by the believers to those who had sent them…

Interesting theses verses… mentions Judas and Silas were prophets?

Acts 15:35 …But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch …

So in asking kindly Circumcision matter was solved for the gentles right?
Next 4 Laws given to live by and obey to remain within right?

Fully all agree gentles do not need to be circumcised?
Asking 2 laws given on… Fornication and idolatry? 🤔
Asking 2 laws given… on dietary laws? 🤔

Peace: heartpulse:

There’s also an Italian dish called “sanguinaccio”. It’s a base of pig blood, but it’s a sweet chocolate and nut dessert. My father liked it. I’ve never tried it.

The very idea of consuming blood in any form turns me into my grand-daughter – “EWW, GROSS!”
